You shouldn't free rev your engine that high.

Because without a load on the motor you have a higher risk of engine damage.

i never thought it was bad, used to do it on my 02 SS all the time

It's bad. It is also normal. All the rev limiters are adjustable in the tune. I set mine even lower for Park/Neutral.....

With the car in competition mode and clutch depressed it will hold 4000 rpm for launch control also

it's not bad to go up to 6 or 6.5. it's bad to free rev your engine meaning it is not under any load, like the weight of your car and in gear.

never tried it, everyone says push the traction button twice, put the clutch in and rev it up to 4K and hold it to the floor. let the clutch out and go.

however, i would never use it, 4K is too high for stock tires and too low for slicks. plus it's way better to work the clutch and gas pedal together for an good launch, rather than floor it completely and release the clutch, you lose control of the wheel spin event.

in any event, i would not floor it all at once and expect the limiter to catch it at 4K in case it doesn't work, i would bring it up to 4K at a reasonable pace, then move the pedal to the floor after you are sure it will hold.

The competition mode is engauged by pushing the TCS button twice. Your display window should say competition mode briefly. From what I have been told the best launch is from about 3500 rpm and slip the clutch don't dump it.

I was test driving my friends 2010 SS LS3 and the launch control is pressing the traction control twice and holding the RPM at 4500 not 4000, dump the clutch and the state of the art computers control wheel spin and it works really well actually.I have a video of it on my computer somewhere I'll find it and post it.

The normal RPM cutoff as in just past redline is 6600.... If you are in Park or Neutral then it is lower.

My 2012 holds at 4000 as stated. I've used it on the street never the track yet. Worked really well for me. It's all in the slow release/slip. Have fun and not everyone drives the same so your going to have the mixed comments. I've been 12.98 and consistent 13.0 at 110-111 mph all stock

It was all stock. I've since ported the throttle body, removed the mufflers, and worked on the air box and inlet tube. Feels more responsive and sounds like a sports car now.
