We are installing a fire suppression system in the TA, and I am looking for some ideas on where to place the under hood nozzles. We are running two in the bay, and one in the car. Lets see what you guys got!

Thanks,
Sean

It is best to run one on each side of the engine and the third somewhere near the driver area, like the steering column. Exactly where you mount it will be up to you guys to achieve a clean and efective install.

I ended up using two FireCharger systems. There is a dual pull. That allows me two nozzles in each of three zones. I have the under hood zone, driver compartment, and the trunk/fuel cell. Either pull will set off half the driver compartment nozzles. Here is a demo we did of on of the FireCharger Bottles activated.

This one runs around the driver's seat and points at my balls.

Under Hood, one Nozzle on each side of the Firewall, notion being that when discharging they would be over the fuel rails and would also have a clear shot down the headers in the event of an oil fir or transmission fire. I had considered putting one nozzle on the top of the transmission. One concern with the engine compartment suppression is that you would not want to hit it at speed else the AFFF might get under the front and rear tires turning a wild ride into something worse.

Bill, you do NOT want your fire bottle(s) mounted vertical. If your car ends upside down, you will NOT have any protection other than just a bit before the siphon tube is uncovered. The best is to mount horizontal. Mine has the valve facing to the right. I will be in the no-go boat if the car is on the right side, but, otherwise, okay.

If you have two, then mount both horizontal, one with the valve to the left, one with the valve to the right. That way, no matter what way the car ended up, you'd be protected. Also, you do NOT want the only underhood nozzles up against the firewall. If you have multiple, then that's okay. Put at least some towards the front, so, if you have a fire and are still moving, the airflow will move the discharge towards the engine and towards the firewall. Take care. Dave

I'll have to update in a few weeks with what we did. Right before we wrapped up the car I was slow on picture taking. We mounted the bottle horizontal, and have the two under hood nozzles on the shock towers. The driver one is on the down tube of the cage to cover the whole driver foot area. The pull handle is part of the shifter mount so its nice and easy to get at.

It took some thinking and planning, but it came out real clean and should be very effective if we ever need it. The only thing we still need to add in (before next season) is a battery shut off handle inside the car. We hope to never need any of the safety gear, but its there if we do.
