I have a mac catback on my Z28 now and it is starting to rust in the mufflers n tailpipes. So I been talking with the wife about putting another muffler on it and just have my stock tailpipes in tips welded onto the new muffler. I like my mac muffler cuase it is tame around town but when I go w.o.t. it screams. So the wife really likes flowmasters sound and was wondering how much it will hurt performace. I have heard alot of mixed emotions on this forum about flowmasters on f-bodys. And was wondering if I got a muffler no matter what brand if it matter going from a 3 inch inlet to dual 2 1/4 outlets in stead of my 3 inch inlet to dual 2 1/2 outlets now ? thanks in advance

What is the best choice if I were to get a flowmaster?

ya 80s suck had em on my lt1 but 40s arent bad for the flowmaster series. if you want loud get race bullits if not get magnaflow or borla.

Well the 40 and 44s, don't come in a cross-flow design, so you wouldn't be able to run dual tips on the L & R. You could run a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler, maybe a Dynomax #17227 Ultra Flo. If you really want a Fm get a Super44 #9430462, the driverside pipe will be easy , but for the passengerside you'll need a 180* bend, a straight section, and a 90* bend to get it over to the passengerside.

From what I've read, Flowmaster is fine as long as you just stay away from their crossflow mufflers, their single in/single out is alright. So, if you want Flowmaster something like a 44 or 40 muffler would most likely be just fine, if you can have something fabricated like 99Bluz28 explained.

magnaflow

The Hooker Aero Chamber #21729HKR would be the least expensive at $72 but it's not stainless steel like the Magnaflow #12267 at $105, and Dynomax Ultraflow #17227. These would be the most cost effective since you wouldn't have to buy additional tubing, or pay more to have it installed.

Thanks well since I want to put my stock tips back on I still have the pipes n taips to cut off the stock muffler. so I dont think I have to buy anymore piping maybe a coupler or 2.

I have the magnaflow 12267 on my car with my stock tailpipes on it. i love the look and sound. they had to extend the pipe on the left side of the muffler since the magnaflow muffler is smaller than the stock one.

I like that. Wonder what it would sound like on mine. I have the slp y-pipe on mine that connects under the cats. I know my mac exhaust got a little louder n much deeper with it. I like the work that was done on yours looks cleaner then what i have seen. I know that the Lt1 sounds different then the Ls1 so Hopefully a magnaflow would sound good on my car. thanks for the pics and sound clip

You shouldn't need to cut the tips off, just cut the pipes off close to the muffler body. The only thing you might need is an extension on the muffler inlet, and or more likely a extension on the driver side pipe coming out of the muffler.

yeah thats what is going to happen. I might need a 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 coupler for bother sides. I just got to figure out which muffler to get now

yeah the drivers side is where they did my extension. they had to use some reducers since the stock LT1 exhaust is 2.75? whle the magnaflow is 3"

your welcome. yeah i think they did a good job on it too. i paid $86 shipped for the muffler online and $70 to have it installed. not a bad mod for a hair over $150. my stock muffler was just starting to look a little tired with almost 130k mi on it. i decided it was time to replace it.

even @ 130k it really didn't look too terrible though. I love having a southern car :)

Aaaaahhh good ol LT1, those were the days. To the OP, the best advice I can give you about chokemaster is not to get it. Had them on my LT1, horrible, look at other options, there's plenty.

409 SS, it'll be as quiet as the magnaflow and flow just as well. There's a sound clip on tech some where.

All of those mufflers, Magnaflow, Hooker Aero-chamber, Dynomax ultra-flo, are going to be quiet at idle and part throttle, but will get loud at WOT.

If you want something loud, your looking at the wrong exhaust systems. Loud would be kooks true duals, slp loudmouth, corsa, borla, tsp true duals, etc.

Hey Check out the Pypes, Race Pro #MVR86S, and the Violator #MVV86S they both flow good and the same, but the Violator #MVV86S is clearly louder, and they both come in 409SS .
PM sent with links.
