Corvette Performance - How to get C6 Z06 performance from a C5 Z06?

Power and suspension-wise?
A good H/C/I combo will easily make the same or better peak HP as a stock LS7, but to match the torque curve will require cubic inches or forced induction.
IMO a good set of coil overs and a proper set of wheels and tires will make the C5 out handle the C6Z for the most part.

Nitrous...or some sort of forced induction. Vortech blowers have become popular as hell on c5's. One of those on 8 psi, c6Z shouldnt be too much of a problem.

A good cam, full exhaust and a good tune... With your heads ported and a FAST intake you should kill one no problem... A good H/C/I setup with tune should be upper 400RWHP....

Oh it will take more than that my friend. Ask me how I know...twice. Ported LS6 heads, cam, exhaust and FAST will put up a damn good fight but it will be a drivers race with a slight edge to the C6Z. That thing is stupid.

Well something is very wrong with your car then... Dont get me wrong the C6Z is a good car but they weigh more then the C5Z and make around 440 RWHP with similar gearing... A good H/C/I and im not talking a slap job setup will put you in the 480 RWHP range and I have seen a few a cunt hair over 500 RWHP, That with a car that already weighs 3050lbs is pretty fucking deadly... Solid 10 second car all day....
MS4 Cam, Full exhaust, Stock heads & Intake, AMS Tune and I can pull away from C6Z's... Ask me HOW I KNOW lol....

Go find a C6Z and race it and put ups video please. You are suggesting a cam only z06 (stock ls6 heads) will pull a c6z??

C6z.. Mid 120 traps all day.. Will require heads and cam with bolt ons minimum to match that.

c6zs will put out ~500 rwhp with headers / cai / tune. It will take a very very strong H/C/I c5z to do so.
Crate motor LS7 is 13.5k, you can probably have a nice ~575rwhp 440ci built for ~$10k.

I'm just curious about it. I've been considering buying either a C5Z or a C6 base but I want something I've got more potential with than my Fbody. I knew the C5 was lighter but still had the same 5.7 bottom end. I was just curious as to whether the weight difference Fbody to Vette was enough to let a 5.7 car run as good as the LS7. I've been leaning more toward a LS3 C6 lately mainly because I see cam only cars are making almost 500rwhp.

I'm selling the complete ST80 Kit (which I'm sure I could've made 850-900rwhp with since I made 670rwhp 11psi with fat A/F ratio, Hot weather and 91octane)
I'm going with something bigger or buying C6 ZO6 Not sure yet !!! :)

What would it take for a C5 Z06 to run as well as a C6 Z06?
If we are talking strickly drag racing and a completely bonestock C6Z with DRs only, a full bolt-on C5Z would be able to keep up with that C6Z. With that stated, a good H/C package would be a much better choice for the mission.

A c6z on radials is running very low 11's @ 124-125. A full bolt on (not H/C) C5Z would have a VERY hard time keeping up with that.

My C5Z with every imaginable boltons could not pace with a C6Z with headers/cai/exhaust/tune. 473 whp vs 509 whp = 424 wtq/480wtq

No shock. c6z uses the lower MN6 gearing from the base C5 coupe but adds the 7k redline. Only better gearing is probably the ZR1 ratio.

YEAAHHHH BUDDY :bigun2: ,,, would a c5z ls6 cammed, A&A at 8 psi with ported LS6 243 heads, full exhaust make 675 RWHP?
back to the topic ,,,,,,, i agree i think a 8 psi kit on a stock ls6 would be enough to take the win..

A well setup/driven H/C c5z is a mid 10 second car and better in good air.
A well driven c6Z is a high 10 second car in good air.
With the right setup and drive I have no doubt that a cam only c5Z can run 10.75 which would be on par with the fastest c6Z's on drag radials.

I think you should change that to EXCEPTIONALLY well driven. Bc 10sec Stock C6Z ARE NOT common. I agree with the consesus here. An aggressive well built H/C/I C5Z can take down a stock or MILD modded C6Z.

Takes a lot to do for sure. Average C6 Z06 is 450 rwhp. Gearing in Trans is a difference. I have a 540 rwhp C6 Z06 and i don't see a lot that will be able to keep up with that.

I agree with that. Three of my friends have done it many times in great conditions.
And don't forget that both an aggressive well built c5Z H/C/I and bolt-on C6Z have run 9's.

If u are going to buy a c5z06 and then mod the Hell out of it, why not just buy a c6z and be done with it. Not knocking a c5z. Why buy a $25,000 car and put in maybe $10,000 just to run with a stock c6z? Pay a little more and get a c6z instead.

If you put 10k in a c5z and cant beat the piss out of a C6Z, then you need to get another hobby. Blower, headers, clutch, CAI, stock cam. 9000 bucks with tune and around 600whp.

U must get a helluva deal on parts prices  I easily have over $10,000 in parts not including all the little stuff, that adds up, not including tires. Plus who knows if the OP can install the stuff himself.
My buddy has a procharger on his C5Z, on 8 psi he laid down 540rwhp on a mustang dyno with full exhuast, stock cam, twin disk. He has a good amount of money in the car. Definitely a badass car!
What I was trying to say is ur are going to have mod the C5Z pretty good to take down a good running stock or slightly modded C6Z, period. The C6Z stock or a modded up C5Z, his choice. Either way he can't go wrong.

Motor-wise the c6 has a nearly $14k motor also. It seems easy to push to 550-600rwhp with H/C/I/E but if you do something wrong you will be out-of-pocket $10k+ easily. Slap a t-trim or D1 on the c5 and you can get 700rwhp out of it with a much cheaper motor.

I had a bolt-on 03 z06 that made 385whp and I now have a c6z with a cai and a borla stinger catback. I agree with Gary2004z06 that a bolt-on c5z on a tire can hang with a stock c6z on a tire in the 1/4 ONLY. The reason is simple, the c6z is much softer coming out of the hole vs the c5z. It doesn't really even hit it's tq band until almost 20mph. The short gearing in the c5z trans is why times between a bolt-on c5z and stock c6z are or can be similar. From a roll, a c5z wilth bolt-on's or will not have a chance with equal drivers.
