A while back, Tireburnin (http://ls1tech.com/forums/member.php?u=29360) posted up his Advanced Induction (http://ls1tech.com/forums/member.php?u=137039) built 416 LS3 (http://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/1343577-advanced-induction-416-ci-hr-l92-vic-jr-714hp-na.html) that is running a stock F-body alternator, alternator bracket and waterpump.

Thats what mine looks like, but was worried there wouldn't be enough surface area of the belt on the water pump. What do you guys think.

Soooo.....IF someone needed a belt a different size....How are they measured ?
1365 = 13mm wide and 65 = length ?????

I used masking tape. Just get it tight and run it like you want the belt routed, should be fairly close, I took a 1/2 off and it was almost exact. The last three numbers of napas belts are the length, then you can cross reference from there....
Example, the stock truck belt is 25060923, so its 92.3 inches long. Basically you can find your length, and add the last three numbers to Napas beggining pn which is 25060. Might have to make it 1/2 inch or so off either way, but they should have one real close

Hope you guys can see that. On the second page is a front view of an LS motor with the setup you guys are looking for. I think it's got better belt contact with the water pump pulley.

This is how I did mine. But I needed to mount the alternator on the passenger cylinder head for pitman arm clearance on my 73 Camaro.

The clamp shown in the pictures was being used to shorten a longer belt I had laying around during mock-up. Also the alternator pully looks large in diameter because it's an underdrive pulley off my Trans Am. I'm now using a standard size alternator pulley so the belt isn't close to the one bolt head the way it is in the pic. The overall belt length for this arrangement is 69.5 inches.

Dayco and Gatorback all put the belt length into the last 3 digits. also Parts stores are usually pretty good about taking back unused belts to grab a handful around the size you think you need and keep the one that works.

GC... thats what I'm shooting for also....just to keep wiring where it is. Now IF it becomes a PITA...to the drivers side it goes.
IF the WP didn't turn backwards, I'd be so much better off.

GC.....what is the pulley next to your alternator and how is it mounted? To the alt bracket or the head?

Sorry.....just saw this here but answered your PMs already. For anyone else following this thread thats curious about the same thing....it's just a ribbed pulley that I robbed off of a truck tensioner. I swapped it for the stock smooth F-body idler pulley due to the change in belt routing (ribbed face of the belt now contacts the idler instead of the smooth back of the belt).

Yeah Doug, it works great in that location on my 73 and keeps the wiring close to the horn relay where all the 12V wiring converges on the firewall. The only time I could see it getting in the way in this spot would be if a set of upswept turbo manifolds were added to the equation.....

Ok guys, for those of you running a setup like in the pic topbrent posted, what are you doing to keep the belt from hitting the bottom alternator bolt? Mine is all on it. Tried an Allen head and it still hits

See how IF the bolt was in the bottom alternator bracket it would hit, how are you guys getting around this.
Thanks

Do you have any pics of this set up with the tensioner between the waterpump and the alternator? Thanks, Eric L

If it were me I would machine about 1/8" - 3/16" from the face of the bracket where the bolt hole is, and cut the head of the bolt as well, to make it work.
shouldnt be too tough, unless the bracket is really thin and you arent able to cut it down much?? Hard to tell from the pics

That part sticking out of the unbolted hole is the sleeve. I agree with Barrett, I would grind it flush and either use a thin headed bolt or just grind the head down. I would think that would work. Hope this helps, Eric L

1365 = 13mm wide and 65 = length ?????If you're running truck acc with the wp and alt only + tensioner, you'll prolly need same thing as I have which is 725k6(72.5inches 6 rib). I got it at autozone.
