OK here is my dilemma. Im trying to upgrade to a v8 (ive had 3 v6 f-bodies so far) and I've come across 2 cars that im debating:
1) 2001 Camaro SS Black 58K miles ~$10000
2) 1998 Camaro Z28 Red w/ SS hood, wheels, intake 35K miles ~$10000
Im stuck because I like the idea of having a real SS, however the Z does have 20k fewer miles and is red.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Would be glad to help but you have no information for us. Color means nothing except to you. We don't even know if these cars have clean titles. Condition? Carfax history? Needs? Who are the owners? Adult one-owner and babied, or mulitple owner including 'newbie' driver and abused? We can't give an educated guess without info, and the more details you provide, the better the 'guesstimate'. Newer doesn't mean better, and the same applies to mileage if the car was beaten.

Both cars are very clean inside and out. Both current owners baby them and barely drive them based on my conversations with them. All I can go on for previous owners is the stories from the current owners obviously, but it appears neither car has lived a particularly hard life. Both have good carfaxes as well. The 98 is on its 2nd owner, the 01 on its third.
Basically what I'm asking is, all else being equal except for the info from my first post, which would you choose? My main concern is the blue book on the'98 is like $9500 for immaculate from a dealer where the '01 is more like $10500. I'd like to attempt not to overpay.

If it were me I would take the 2001 SS. The mileage isnt that high for the price of the car, and you will be driving a real SS not a clone. You can probably get it for $9500 maybe less.

That is true. Also the SS would have higher value later on. Decisions decisions.

I mean realistically both cars have too many miles to be considered "collector quality" examples though the Z28 is close but it's already modded anyways. But both are low mileage for being over 10 years old. But 98 F-bodies are the least valuable, and think of it this way: who would want to buy a 35k Malibu over a 58k Chevelle if you ever have to sell it?

Thanks for the input, its nice to be able to bounce this kind of thing off of people who know f-bodies rather than my subaru loving friends.

If things really are truly equal in all regards (I doubt it though) I would also take the 2001. Besides it being 3 years newer I don't like the 'clone' thing of the '98. That's a personal decision for you, not us. The higher mileage is the only negative of the two cars being mentioned but it is still 'low mileage' in the grand scheme of things with many years and miles left on the engine. Good luck!
