Gen 5 Camaro External Bolt-On Tech - How do I get the A/C belt off?
OK, so I am doing a standard H/C/I swap on a guys 2010 Camaro. I get down to pulling the belts off and notice there is no tensioner for the A/C belt. I came up with a couple ways I could get it off but none are good. So, what's the trick? I am guessing I will have to loosen the A/C in some way or fashion. I tried a search and came up with nothing. Figured I would ask before I re-invent the wheel.

You have to "walk" it off by turning the motor over and using a plastic tool handle or something to get it over the rim of the pulley as you turn. Or just cut it and replace when reassembling.
That was the plan. Just hoping there was another way. Off is always easier than on. Thanks.

scissors work. You can also actually ignore the belt and pull the crank pulley with a puller. The belt will come off when the pulley comes off the snout.

You are telling me there is no way other than stretching the new belt to replace the AC drive belt?

Correct. New belts from GM actually have a belt stretching tool that latches onto the crank pulley to stretch it on. Pretty neat.

Yeah I just did some research and saw that. It still seems like a dam good way to damage the compressor though, pulling on the shaft to stretch a belt on. Well I will be doing mine this weekend since I noticed the one on my car was frayed when I did my header install. I will let everyone know how that goes.

It takes 10 seconds to put one on, once you realize how it works. very easy

Yes this is correct. Route the belt over the compressor pulley. Then route it over the crank as much as it will go. Turn the crank over and the belt will walk right on. This will be done on the crank from the back side of the balancer.
