starter turns over slow
I'm right on the verge of starting this blazer/ls1 swap (i hope...) but right now I cannot get the starter to cooperate. I have a brand new battery and new 4ga. battery cables. I'm running the 4ga cables straight to the starter and a second negative to the frame and engine block. I was only getting a click at first but now its started to turn over really slow. I'm not sure where else to look. I can turn the engine over by hand at the pulley so i know its not locked up or anything.

I would take it off and still have it tested. Sounds like it might have a bad ground but you said you replaced them. Its been years ago(15-20) .. but i got 3 bad sbc starters in a row from the same store. Its not impossible you got a friday or monday rebuilt one. Also if you have a meter .. put it across the battery posts and have someone crank it. One volt drop during cranking on a full charge is the most you want to see . It will be steady voltage while cranking and not dropping. And then you can check the starter for heat. If it is in the starter it can get hot enough to burn you if you touch it . Generally they will get warm during starting but not enough to burn you.
