Default Any 400+ builds with 853's

I picked up a set of 853 stamped heads and trying to decide if they are worthy of my first LS build. I have searched and found few people still using them I can try to hand port them or even send them off if they can get me to 400hp. Can I put them on a 6.0 block? Have yet to decide on the block and displacement just curious what I can do with these heads. Thanks

yes if you have them ported, you will see gains, most ppl will prob say hold out for 243/799..but give more info, what cam, intake, bolt ons, etc? if you put ported 853 on a stock car you will not see 400, and finally yes they will go on a 6.0

I have not done enough research to know what cam and springs yet. These 853's were dirt cheap is why I picked them up. I looks on AI website and I can't tell if they port 853's. I should wait for flow numbers before choosing cam and springs right? Excuse my ignorance I'm sure it can be annoying. I'm leaning tears a genIV aluminum 6.0 to get rolling and down the road sleeve it and get AFR heads.

853's are easily capable of 400whp, especially on a 6.0L. You probably wouldn't even need to port them, depending on the cam you go with.

I should have prob posted this in the newbie tab, Im building my first LS for a 73 Camaro DD. I picked up these 853's for 60$ just to get started. If they are not the best flowing, ported or otherwise thats ok. I can use them for a truck build or something. My original question is if these 853's can flow well enough to get 400+ N/A. Its not so much a money issue as Id rather spend the money I have now on Block and rotating assembly capable of big numbers later when I have more money. Is there a section on here dedicated to builds? I want to port these heads and put them on a 6.0 with a mild cam for a DD. Thank you for the info, Im going to search some more and try to find a similar build.

I made 405 rwhp with the streetsweeper cam, and mods in my sig, besides the ported heads. Now with a smaller cam and ported heads I made the numbers in my sig. If I switch the intake and better headers, I bet I would see 450 rwhp and it drives like stock.

My friends has a 99 with SS cam, I did a VJ and blended it quick but didnt touch the ports, or port them at all. and it made 440whp/410wtq with a LS6 ported stock TB, LT, catback, Lid.

The Lingenfelter LS1 ASA AC Delco Stock Car Series motors made about 400 to the wheels with the ASA hot cam, headers, ecu tune, and better valve springs, and scavenge only type dry sump system. Very stout little race motors, many racers used them for more than one season without a rebuild.

They used stock unported 853's.
