I have an 06 gto, and I'm wanting to do an auto conversion on it. Has anyone on here done this before? What tranny would be best for 700+ RWHP? Etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated

RPM is a good site and information. I hear people have TH400 or 350 sometimes.

It's the 6 speed form CTSVs, Zl1s, and HD trucks.

6 gears will let you put a lower rear end ratio in it and still be as fast as a 4-speed with 3.91s or 4.10s. Only problem is how to run the computers.

I went from M6 to 4L80e

I went from m6 to 4l65 easy swap if you can find a auto engine harness.

Depends on your budget, a stock 4L80 with a mild refresh will take you a long ways but a build 4L60 will take you there as well

Why would that be more difficult than the 4l60/80e swap?

The LS2 Computer will not work with the 6l90e

My goal is to run in the 10s. I'm goin with cam, heads, intake, exhaust, and nitrous as well as some suspention and drivetrain upgrades. What tranny would be best for that and still be streetable?

Interested in selling your M6 parts? I have an A4 I'd like to convert to manual.

Maybe. It's going to be around the middle of September before I'll be able to do it. If you're willing to wait that long then yeah man, definitely

What's the prices of everything 4l80e related for the goat? I know for the proper one for a C5 it's a lot.

Not sure if you're willing to do this or not, but as a suggestion: there's a shop local to me that will swap all the parts on both cars at a cost of $1300 per car. That includes reprogramming and the car will be as close to OEM as it gets. You can get into a 4L65E stock GTO trans with 70k miles that's been babied since new and has all the regular services done (never been tracked or hard launched).

You'll have an excellent starter trans to have built, and If you decide the 4L65E isn't going to cut it, at least you'll be at a much better starting point from there.

I'm definitely willing to wait, since I've been looking for someone willing to swap for the last six months. :)

How much stronger are the 65's compared to the 60's?

OP, I would really be interested in doing a straight swap with you. I have an 06 A4 currently with a little less than 41,000 miles. Car is completely stock except for an axleback exhaust and has never been ran hard or been to the track.

I probably have access to a full shop with lifts and we could do the swap for no cost, except for each of us getting our PCMs reprogrammed (I may even be able to get that done for free).

We could just pull both cars in, put them on the lifts, and start transferring parts.

Again, this should cost neither of us much, except for a few things like PCM reprogram (maybe free too), and fluids, etc.

Let me know. I'm very interested in doing this.

I'm thinking you need to tell me where this shop is, and find me another M6 donor if you're going to horn in on mine bro...

Makes me feel better that it is am 06 (04 a4 has its own "special" harness) lol but I just spent way to long cutting and redoing my harness in my 04 and swapped in a 3 speed Saginaw.....this winter open on swapping it out for a 4 speed Muncie

I didn't horn in on anything brah.

OP can do whatever he chooses. Free country brah.

I figured my suggestion was at least worthy of a chuckle.

Whether the OP's interested or not, I'm located in central TX if there's any M6 owners thinking about this swap.

No hard feelings. Sarcasm is difficult to detect on the Internet. Hopefully we both can find someone willing to do the swap.

You can pick up Muncie 4 speeds in great shspe for around $750-800 all over the place :)

Trying to keep it looking factory (though I will be upgrading the T56 and clutch I end up with).

Plus, gathering up all the supporting parts is a complete PITA since any wrecked GTOs end up salvaged as ready swaps with complete engines, trans, and supporting parts.

If forced to wait long enough, I'll bite the bullet and spend the $ to buy a salvage myself.

I may have the necessary main components to swap to A4:

engine harness
brake pedal
shifter assembly
