I'm sitting here in the garage with the POS OEM tool from autozone and not having any luck. I can't keep the dowel straight and the clamps keep on sliding off of the groove. Does anyone have a trick to this? This supposedly simple task is NOT.

I must be totally confused. Don't you just use a 15mm wrench and turn the bolt on the tensioner pulley clockwise to release tension on the belt?

You're using the puller with 2 metal halves and a ring that holds them together right? (best description I can think of). You don't use the 3 jaw kind.

Good luck!

I used the tool from Autozone with no problem. I took the radiator out and it popped the pulley off and it went back on without any issues either.

That's the one. What a royal pain in the ass. I was actually able to get a wrench on the backside of the PS hose to get it off, but getting the new one on is proving to be very difficult with the pulley on.

The two metal halves don't get tight enough and slip off. I've tried taping them together and wrapping them over and over to make up for some of the space in the ring, but it's not working. I gave up using it.

Also, for those replacing their power steering pressure hose, removing the sway bar makes it possible. It's also a good time to replace those worn bushings. I wish I knew that beforehand.

Tried again and finally got it. Turns out I had the metal halves backwards. Woops.

Put a hose clamp around it. Thats what I had to do with the AutoZone puller.

What are you working on, might I ask?

Yeah same question, are you replacing just the pulley on the power steering pump?

Neither, the pressure hose.

It's a real bitch getting the hose threaded onto the bottom of the pump with the pulley in the way.

Yeah, autozone has the tool for a $42 deposit. Just remember the larger edged side of the grooved metal halves is what goes over the pulley side.

The bracket bolts are on there pretty f'in tight. Overly tight if you ask me.

I'll be pulling mine off tonight too. Must be something in the air.
