Default What is the difference between a .81 AR and .96 AR turbine housing?

I have a 1998 Camaro with a forged LS2 402ci motor (8.5-1 compression, turbo cam, stock manifolds, y-pipe and matching exhaust).

I am running a .96AR housing on my GT67 STS rear mount turbo.

If i swapped on the .81 AR housing what would that accomplish?

What are the benefits to running a .96AR housing on my motor?

I am running a 5# Spring, and i know my motor is WAYYYYY underpowered currently, but i am in the process of dialing it up slowly.

Which is a better AR housing and what are the differences between the two?

I am running a manual transmission in my car if that makes any difference with a FMIC.

That turbo is already too small for the motor, dropping to a smaller a/r will only hurt you more. It will show up top when the smaller housing cant flow enough air.

Use the smallest housing that gets your job done without causing excessive exhaust back pressure between engine and turbine housing.

Only testing will show if that is happening or not.

But in general a small housing should spool a little faster, possibly at the expense of a little top end. Again, it all depends.

stay with the .96 a/r. I have the TC-78 wit .96 a/r and it is fine right now but sooner or later it will cause back pressure problems, you are just going to choke the turbo because it cant flow all the air
