General Maintenance & Repairs - T-top glue???

So I was going down the highway and I cracked op my window a little and "poof" my T top ejects off the car like an old James Bond movie. Someone must have turned the release. Well it hit the grass and did not break the only issue I have is that the glue used to hold the entire mechanism to the glass has broke free from the plastic and the top is very loose. Any Idea of what to glue this back together with? :secret2:

No I'm wanting to know what they used to put it together originally. no jb weld, crazy glue etc: I don't want it coming off again and possibly killing someone.

Chances are that some form of cyanoacrylate was used to hold it down. You should be able to use any super glue to fix it

You can also buy another ttop for $50-$75 if you want.
I've had 3 ttops fly off over the years. I now do a cockpit check every time I get in the car to be sure it is latched in.

Scared the s*** out of me the. Had to get a new windshield and the jackass that put it back on I guess broke it or something. Luckily it shattered...on a friday evening...and it rained...all weekend :eyes:

yes scared me too. I've called a bunch of glass shops and they really don't want to mess with it. Just came back from 4 of the local junk yards and all they have looks like shit. My car is garage kept, never realized how bad these things can look like being outside all the time. Guess I'll have to keep looking, just glad it didn't hit another car when it came off.

Don't glue it until you know what it is! If you look on the back of the plastic part, there is a molded-in stamp with two or three letters denoting the type of plastic. What are they? (Based on that, you can make the best call. Some plastics require specialty glues or welding chemicals.)

Suprised the glass shops wont do it. Its pretty simple, ive done it a few times before growing up doing auto glass work with my father. All you need to do is make sure you use the proper primer, and windshield urethane.

edit: I used Sikaflex 220 urethane, and their "aktivator" to promote adhesion , just as i would to install a windshield on the same material.s

I found a local shop that did the repair but won't gaurentee it. Just picked it up he charged me $35, not a bad deal we'll see how it works tomorrow. I went to all the local yards and all of what they had looked like shit for $75 - $100.
