I'm planning (ie. dreaming) my future LS1 rebuild to include boost. I know the differences in performance of turbos vs. supercharging , but my car is a daily driver and through research and listening it seems like turbo guys are constantly rebuilding/replacing their turbos. are superchargers life expectency any longer? I have wife , kids , the mortgage etc.. and if I shell out 5K+ for boost i'd have to get more than 15k miles at least before I can even imagine explaining to the lil woman that I need to fix something.. i average 20K miles a year on the car..

Superchargers are usually less maintenance IIRC, Procharger for example I think the maintenance would just be changing the S/C oil and maybe replacing the belt.

Sounds like you need a second car.

Personally, if budget and money was a serious concern, I wouldn't do a high dollar build on a daily driver that I put 20k miles per year on. I agree with the "second car" comment, I'd put the build money into buying a basic daily driver and then start saving again to do the build on your toy.

i have to agree with everyone else here man, if this is your only dd and money is tight then i wouldnt mod it. read the real price of forced induction it goes far beyond the 6k price tag on the procharger kits or any turbo kit ive seen. for reliability id go with forged internals, upgrade the valve train, upgrade your fuel system, upgrade your rear end, upgrade your tranny. theres alot more than just slapping a turbo on there and calling it a day. thats why i got a new mustang for a dd toy and put minor mods on and i kept my vette as my weekend toy that i can do whatever to and break. i know its not what you want to hear but it the best choice for anyone really

LISTEN to those that have been through it. You are only asking for trouble making your dd into a road warrior.

Lol yup been down that road with my last trans am modded dd it sucked when something broke or wasn't running perfect and u have to drive it everyday. Now I got 2 cars and my project trans am is paid for the last one had payments on it lol never do that again

im with everyone else! having a D.D seperate from my race car weekend warrior has helped so much.that way i can really concentrate on the car and build it how i want it, and not be stressing about needing a car to drive.

thanx for the advice. i think I'll go with Forged internalls and head & cam package.

I was going to ask this same question - what has had my interest peaked has been the turbo kit on ebay for $1000 that fits an LS1 and produces 100 extra HP. I suppose then this is too good to be true and no good for a daily driver!

Thanks.

H/C is a much better choice for a daily IMO you will be happy for a while with the power improvement, save while you drive it like that then buy a beater and retire your fbody from DD use and then go crazy.

something some one told me awhile ago is even if u get a 2nd car so u can mod ur fbody dosnt mean u dont have to drive that car every day, my 2000 trans am is my DD but i have an 87 chevy mud truck thats decently street friendly, i DD my T/A every day but when i go to do something to it or something happens and it takes a few days, i dont sweat it and drive my truck and suck up the 10mpg for a few days till my cars done.

also when my cars fine i can take the truck out and play with it at an event or bog and not worry if it breaks or not as i got my t/a (truck was my first vehicle/DD for awhile lol) when it broke it sucked

it takes years. and paychecks. truer words will never be spoken. be patient...and if you want it bad enough itll happen. my blessing is having a company vehicle to drive to work everyday plus a few other cars if i need them. otherwise my TA would still be H/C

if you start modding a car its a good idea to not DD it.

Now I see why people just use nitrous may be dangerous but definetly alot cheaper.
