a Buddy of mine has a chance to get a 1973 oldsmobile V8 long block with a turbo 350 trans supposedly in good working order for free. he wants to replace the 4.3 V6 in his 1985 chevy pickup 4x4. The olds sat for 5 years without running..before it was pulled.. once pulled it has sat for 2 years with various holes(i.e. intake manifold coolant line..no hedders..) not plugged or covered..
My questions and concerns are this. Will the Oldsmobile motor mounts line up with the pickup? will the transmission crossmember mount? Will there be any wiring issues? How much work is involved?
I ask that only because money is limited on his end. I offered to help him turn some wrenches if it would bolt up. He needs a motor for the truck and im trying to help him decide on this motor or to go to our local "pick and pull" and pull a good Chevy 350 longblock and go that route. Given the Olds is free.. but will the conversion cost more than just buying a longblock from a junkyard and going through it to ensure it works. this is by no means a super motor build. just need something that works and goes from "A" to "B"....
Any info or imput is greatly appreciated..
