Long tube headers and exhaust would give You between 25 and 30 more ponies . Car Craft did some testing on a junk yard 5.3L ,,,,first they put long tubes and an MSD ignition controller and a carb manifold and carb . They baselined at 335 hp and 350 lb./ft which is 50 more ponies than stock and 15 more lb./ft. than stock . I would say the long tubes accounted 4 25 of the ponies and the MSD the other 25 . They installed a *****-Thumper cam and springs and gained 96 or 98 hp and like 15 lb./ft. bringing their j-yard build to 431 flywheel hp and 365 lb./ft. dollar per dollar a cam, springs and push rods is by far the most economical ,,,,,,,,but with cam ,,,,to enjoy all it's benefits You need a stall convertor . Or You could just go with a set of gears and gain alot of acceleration ,,,,,,just don't change the ratio by too much ,,,,,,,if You have 3.08 now ,,,,,,put in 3.42 . If You have 3.42 now ,,,,,go with 3.73's
