i have a terrible time with anything other than a gasket. I have used permatex's right stuff with some success. RTV sealant always leaks on me.

Damn, I bet you had a heck of a time getting that thing apart using right stuff! I have used both with success, just preference I feel.

I agree. I usually prefer Permatex Ultra Black RTV and have less problems with it than gaskets on applications like a third member. It also releases and cleans up relatively easily if things need to come apart in the future.

Either way, both surfaces have to be clean of dirt, grease and oil... but you knew that, right?

I have always used blue permatex on my 10 bolt covers and never had any issues at all. That said I'm not familiar with a 9". Got one coming soon though!

I just cant seem to find the correct gasket for the Moser the ony one that looks right is felpro 2302 but its like $20 supposed to be metal layered i would rather have a reg. thin gasket and apply a thin layer of permatex anyone know of a cheap gasket that will fit the moser?

One thing I do when just using gasket maker is to tighten the nuts down maybe to 60-70 percent...then after it sets up, I tighten the nuts nice and snug. This sort of acts like a rubber gasket then. If you tighten the hell out of it from the start, you will be left with a very thin gasket in between. I have always done it this way when not using a gasket, with good results. Chuck

When I've had a gasket I put rtv around both sides and tightened it up. When I didn't have a gasket I just used rtv. I just spread a even layer all over it and I've never had a problem. My 9" just had black rtv so thats what I put back and no problems at all.
