Default 1969 Camaro Base (307) Question from a friend

My friend has a 1969 Camaro 307. He's tired of his stock 14" wheels. He wants to go to a 17X9" probably AR torq thrust or a knock off version. Any way he wants to know if he can run a 275/40/17 on all four corners with out any modification or will he be better off with a 255/50/17?

His car is all stock suspension except for brand new shitty monroe shocks on front and back. I'll post a picture to help with judgement

my dad has a 69 and although he is running a 15 inch set up with i believe 245's all the way around (i'll check the tire sizes a little later), there is no rubbing or clearance issues at all. The rear has tons of room for a wider tire since that year the 69's rear fender seems a little wider than the earlier 67 and 68 camaro. If I get time, I'll check how much room he has, but I don't see why there would be any issue with a 275 at least out back with the correct offset wheel.

also, i know he is talking about doing 275's all the way around, but i would stay with a smaller tire up front, that way if he wants to lower it later, there is less chance of the fronts rubbing.

I agree with RoidedSS.The 275 tire on a 9"or9.5" wheel should be good on the rear but he better do some checking before he buys them for the front I think.I have seen a 69 with 275s on 17 x 9.5" in back but with 8" wide with 245s in front and it looks great.

Yes, 275/40's will fit all the way around on a '69 Camaro. You do have to get the backspace right though. 5.5" should be close on a 9.5" rim. You might be doing some fender rolling and it might hit the frame rail at full lock. In the rear it works perfect. Up front it might be tight. Be forewarned though, he'll soon want to lower it. That makes things a little tighter up front. Most common sizes to run are 245/45-17 in front on a 17x8 with a 4.75" backspace and 275/40-17 on a 17x9.5" rim with 5.5" backspace out back. With that setup it will be fine to run a couple inches lower too.

I ran 275 front and 285 rears on my 69 with no mods. They were C5 Z06 17x9.5/18x10.5 wheels

275 clear easily on the back of a 69. It can fit in the front, but will most likely rub when the car is lowered. I agree with everyone saying the 245 front/275 rear is the best all around combo. It also looks fantastic.

that site has a few guys that posted their cars with 275's on the rear. they are all also running a 10 inch wide rim....just a thought for your bud.
