General LSX Automobile Discussion - stock LS1 exhaust (export 99 Camaro less power? also "slow" 1/4mile time)

Hey guys!
I wonder if you guys know anything about the export 4th gen Camaros because
i wonder why they are lower rated than US-spec Camaros.
I am from Austria and i have a 99 Camaro LS1/6spd and here they are rated at 284HP. I just wonder if it has something to do with the exhaust... i dont have seen any other stock LS1 exhaust but i just snapped a picture of my exhaust where you can see the pipe after the cat gets smaller. It mostly looks like its because of the ground clearance of the car but i thought id just ask.
Here's the picture:

Is that a stock exhaust of a 99 LS1?
I also ran my car at the 1/4 mile last Oktober... about 4 runs and the lowest time i could get was a 13.9 at 101mph with a 2.340 60foot. I have to say i had bad old tires and it was just an old airfield, so no prepped track.
The Camaro got C5 corvette wheels on it with 275 on the rear. Everything else is stock.
What do you think? is it a slow 1/4 mile time ?
In about a month my Camaro will see a Dyno and then i really know how much power shes pushing.

Looks like my old stock Y-pipe. I don't know why non us spec cars would be rated at a lower HP number. I'm assuming this is a automatic car? Quarter mile numbers don't seem that off to me for a bone stock car either. If you got the 2.3 60ft down to a 2.1 you'd be in the mid 13's which is completely normal.

Its a 6speed manual. Okay that sounds good then. I think i will get some better numbers then with the new tires... really hoping for mid 13. Somewhere i read that they put a V6 muffler on the export LS1 Camaros... thats pretty weird. Im glad the pre owner bought a new stock muffler from a shop in america so i dont have that weird looking exhaust on my car and sounds pretty good for beeing stock :)

Sweet man, couple bolt on's, a tune and some tires and you'll be throwing down 12's in no time!

All the LS-1 y-pipes look that way from the factory but i have no idea why its rated @ a lower HP but i am sure they did not make a different motor and it has 305 hp like the ones here do.1/4 Time is not bad for the crappy 60ft .

id say your car runs fine. you just need better traction and driving perhaps.
can you show us where it says its rated at 284hp? it could just be that how they rate power is different there.

I don't know of any proper running factory LS1 that only makes 305hp at the crank. ;) This is nothing more than a game that GM played with power ratings, as all LS1s are more like ~345-350hp stock, same as C5, proven time and again by stock dyno numbers.

This is possibile, as noise regulations may be different in other countries. But if your catback has been changed, then there would be no way to verify this unless you could get a look at another car that has not been modified.
The US spec V8 catback would be a 2.75" I-pipe with a slight diameter reduction at the muffler inlet, and then dual 2.25" outlets and tail pipes. Part number for a base V8 muffler was 10414653 and should be stamped on the muffler case.

Could they be rating it at the wheels for HP instead of at the flywheel?

Thanks guys for the replies. Well the ratings are always flyhweel HP... in my papers the Camaro is rated at 288PS which are 212KW and 284HP. The weird thing is that the Camaro SS (LS1) is rated at 330HP like its in the US too.
When you look at wikipedia (german) then you also see how the Z28 is rated at 288HP... also, alot of people discuss on german f-body forums whats so different from f-body LS1 and the Corvette LS1 and why they are rated different... just some corvette tuners know that there isnt much difference.
And yeah, the pre owner of my Camaro ditched that V6 muffler and put on a stock muffler for a LS1 Camaro which he bought new from a US-car-parts shop.
I also dont think there is any difference at the engine because of those euro and us ratings of the car... i just wondered about the exhaust (y-pipe) but as you guys said thats the stock one, the us camaros also have. I am glad for that :)
I will see to post some pictures where you can see the ratings and stuff... maybe some of you guys are interested in these :)

Here you can see how the Z28 is oficially rated at 288PS in Europe. This is just one of thousands(? :D ) of articles from European car magazines.
I know this is in German but maybe some of you guys can reach out there how much power the Camaro got :D

Its pretty weird but i am going to show some guys that thinks that car only has 288PS that it has some more in real. The end of August this year i will be at a Dyno day... :)
After i know how much the Camaro is pushing when its stock, i am really looking forward to do get some mods done! ;)

I dont know if its just a year model difference or what but it looks like your passenger side cat is located a lil farther downstream than it is in my 02 which ran a best of 14.0 on a 2.3 60 ft with some bald tires at 105 so your numbers arent that far off. Surprised you didnt see higher mph tho since mine is an auto

Manifolds, cats and Y-pipe were different for '98-'99 vs '00-'02. The OP's car has the correct stock cats/Y-pipe for a '98-'99.

could just be a combo of bad tires and bad DA to account for the slower ET and MPH

the only thing that might've happened which I doubt is maybe the non-us cars have a little less agressive tune which I doubt.
