I just rebuilt the bottom end of my engine & my bearing clearances are all within stock specs, the machine shop that did the work is pretty insistant that I run 10w40 or heavier, but that doesn't seem right to me. He's kind of an old school guy & doesn't seem to have much LS experience. I"v got 10w40 in it now, but thinking of going back to 5w30 when I change it this week. What is everyone else running?

I was told that if i ran stock bearing clearances then I should run the recommended 5w30 or 10w30.

If it will see above 6000 rpm, I would use minimum 10-40. Otherwise, I use 20-50 in mome with 10-40. 3 of each. But. One are junkyard dogs. For you, 10-40 or straigh 40 weight if you are spinning it. The oil breaks down quickly, 10-30 becomes more like water after a couple weeks of abuse.

Brad Penn 20w-50 for me, but I'm running more bearing clearances and more rpm's than most folks.
