What are you all using to install the damper pulley??

I put a want ad for the Hawks or SDPC in the WTB section with no bites...I would think there would be tons out there from one time cam swaps...?!?!?

You never want to use an Impact to draw a balancer on nor do you want to use the threads of a crank thats how they get damaged. This is why balancer installation tools are threaded. A piece of all thread works with the use of a sleeve like a short pipe

as long as it grabs enough threads.. absolutely nothing...
however, thats a lot of stress to put on just a few threads..


Much smarter to buy some threaded rod, and some thick washers and a nut and pull it on that way...
no chance of damaging the treads of the crank..

but its just a threaded rod with a special nut and washer...

and they charge a **** ton for it...

I literally just did this tonight. I took my old crank bolt to the machine shop I work at and had the head/washer part of the bolt turned off, then threaded 5/8-18 which is the thread size on the installer I used. I couldnt use the thread on the installer because it wouldnt fit inside the pulley all the way back to the crank. From there used the bearing/washers/nut method and it worked fine. The last 1/4 inch is a PITA though, it gets VERY tight. I chose to make the tool in favor of impacting it on with the new bolt. No way should you do that and rick killing the threads inside your crank, I wouldnt be surprised at all if it would do just that on the last 1/4 inch because of how tight it gets. Take your time and it will go ok. The claims of doing a pulley swap in "20 minutes" is pure bs imo. It takes time and care if your ocd like me and afraid of killing parts lol

took me 5 min to take the pulley off one engine and put it on another. dont know how it takes anyone 20 min to do it. if you have the right tools its easy.

That's how I've always done it and I said LONGER crank bolt. You have plenty of contact with the longer bolt

Im the guy that people have to bring their parts to after they have problems such as this to be repaired. Take it from me its not a good idea. Im sure it has worked for you and if thats how you chose to install your balancers thats cool, but you would ever catch me using this method.
