Default EL Torro vs. TSP 228r

I wanted to see how these two cams compared to one another. I will be looking at a cam here in the near future and these two seem to be what I am looking for. The car is mostly a street car with your occasional trip to the track. I am looking for a nice streetable cam that I wont regret on wishing I had gone bigger. I'd like to have power all throughout the power band with some down low grunt as well. The motor on the car includes:

99 Camaro SS M6

-Fast Toys 98mm LID
-Ported Throttle Body
-ls6 intake manifold
-TSP 1 7/8 Long tube headers
-TSP true duals
-4.10 gears (stock 10 bolt)
-stock heads and bottom end

Both cam specs:

EL toro cam (by predator-z)

230/230 .615/.592 111+2 LSA

TSP 228r

228/228 .588"/.588" 112 LSA

The camaro is my daily driver at the moment so keep that in mind. Just looking for some insight and would rather do as much research as possible before making a final decision.

I've been debating on the el torro-ish cam for a while too. Do a search on 'reverse split' cams, pred-z and Pat g have done some really interesting threads on the concept. Since essentially that is what the el torro cam is (even though the durations look the same with 230/230). Maybe that will help you decide? I think chris1313 used one for a while too... The difference I would think there would be between the two is that the el torro cam may have a flatter/broader torque curve, but I'm certainly not an expert

Appreciate it HVYMTL , It seems like the reverse split cams carry there power band more in the low to midrange. I wonder how this will effect my 4.10 gearing and if it will be too much wheel spin?

IMO, a 228/228 111lsa would be a better would be option then the 112lsa, but still more streetable then the 230/230 111+2 lsa.
Either one would be nice!

Chrs1313 went 10's in a reverse split cam only car. They make awesome numbers. I would go with the El Torro because it gives more potential for future mods..

Both those cams will be streetable and easy to drive.

BTW, i ran a reverse split in my 02 fbody, and liked it. I would run that cam up against any cam.

IMO the El Torro is very close to that perfect size between to large and leaving some on the table for a street car.

It has great manners and is easily tuned with no surge or bucking. Plus it makes great power and has run the number to back it up.

What type of gearing would be ideal for the reverse split styled cam such as the "el toro?" Would 4.10's be too much allowing for too much wheel spin?

I have 4.10's and with my combo 1st gear is useless. I can spin my Michelin Pilot 285's all the way through 2nd and smack the rev limiter on any form of blacktop, hot or cold. My numbers are from a known conservative dyno, but I can run right with procharged 3V Mustangs from a 2nd gear roll.

I'm going down to 3.73's when I get a new rear as I don't want to have to run drag radials all the time on the street.

The 230/230 111+2 makes SICK tq. Hands down the best cam for a street/track car. I've won some races I shouldn't have because of its tq curve...

And if I had to choose a gear for this cam it'd be 3.73's.

can you get your cam through texas speed when i was looking at cams i couldnt find anybody that sold your cam so i settled for the 228r. Now im thinking since my car is my weekend toy that i should go with the el toro. my goal is 11.5's cam only.

Not gonna be worth four-five tenths. Be lucky if the difference is worth one tenth. 3.73 gear will go farther and make the car more fun for the money. If you're gonna go through the trouble to swap cams you might wanna go a little bit larger than two degrees duration and four degrees of overlap.

If anyone wants the "El Torro" grind they will have to be custom ground.

If you want this cam I can have it ground as we are a dealer for comp and I spec custom cams all the time.
