Default Stall for 355 w/ LT4 Hotcam

I wanted to inquire what would be best stall for torque converter on 355 w LT4 hotcam kit. I'd be running more on street than track, would occassionally go to track. If i'm not mistaking LT4 hotcam requires a 2500+ stall. Would 3600 stall be too much considering the car would get minimal track exposer? Tranny in car is a mildly built 4l60e, tranny will be build to handle about 500hp, but I'm only making 370 rwhp and have no plans to go any further at the moment, but thats always subject to change...But I'll deal with that when I cross that road. All input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Oh yeah 3.73 gears in rear...

If you get a good quality 3600 stall you will love it. Normal driving it will act near stock.

Whatever you do, stay the eff away from TCI converters. But Vigilante, Yank, Circle D are all good products.

I have a cc502 which is similar to the hotcam I also have a vig3600. This is my first high stall converter. So take what I say with a grain of salt. To me the converter feels a little to lose on the bottom end. When I call yank they recommended a 3200 I bought the 3600 vig because it was a deal I couldn't pass up. I feel like a 3200 would be perfect but I could be wrong in my thought process.

You also have 3.42 gears. With the 3.73 gears he won't have that issue.

So your edge 3600 drove great, good street manners? I've been looking at the edge torque converters and there competitively prices as well.. So in reference to longivity will 3600 stall cause alot more premature where on cluthes than say a lower stall? Not that I'm looking for this to last forever, cause I know I'll be peggin the gas pedal quite a bit but it will be 90% on street. Thanks again.

3600 is nice, know a guy has same setup with one. I had 3000 in our Impala SS. It was nice. Came off the line pretty hard and had excellent street manners.

BTW, you got 370rwhp from a hotcam??? Must be some hellacious heads.

I had a 3800 JW,To me IMO 3600 is just ******* overkill UNLESS you are racing the bitch everyday... I couldn't be happier with my Phoenix 2800 .. The higher the stall the more throttle and gas it takes to get to in town speeds, gas milage takes a dive, more heat in the trans is created from in the converter ..the constant slipping at higher RPMs got annoying DDing mine... You loose alot of the bottom end power feel.. Untill u floor it, can u floor it everywhere you go in town? Do u really want /need to? A 2800 will still flash up to 3000-3200 and have better manners for low throttle bumper to bumper driving.. And you can get to feel the cars power thru a wider rpm range... Still perform when u want and not feel like a slipping trans constantly.. I've had 3 converters recently a vigilante 3200,a Jw 3800, now a phoenix Trans 2800 ... I drive 60 miles every day 50/50 interstate and bumper to bumper..and for grocerys on weekends In my H/C 383 and it fits my needs perfectly. My 2cent summery is unless you are at the track everyweekend and it's not a long trip thru traffic daily then you absolutely don't need such a high converter ..

No she wont be at the track that often at all, so I think I'll go with 2800 that sounds better suited for driving I will be doing. Thanks I really appreciate the input.

I would think the higher the gearing the loser it would make the TQ converter feel not tighter.

I agree if you just dding go smaller it will be more fun to drive.

Correct. The OP has 3.73 gears. That would make the stall tighter. Picking up rpm quicker. The guy says it felt loose had 3.42 gears.

Daily an ss3600, no problems at all, drives really good. And I wouldn't go any smaller at all.

I disagree with a 3600 being too much for the street. I drive mine to work and back a few times a week 55 mile round trip without any problems. I barely have to touch the gas to get it moving in town. That's the difference in a good quality converter. I had mine reconfigured from 3000 to 3600 last year and didn't notice any difference on the street. On the highway it drives even more like stock because it locks up one to one so it's the same as stock.

The Yank SS 3600 is a very tight converter, I have over 7 years on mine with just bolt-on's and wouldn't recommend anything else.

How about the Rev Max line. Anybody have any input on this. They seem to be half the price. Can any of u guys say how much your converters cost? Nobody ever says a price. Haha So a quality converter can feel like a 2800 or stock but is a 3600 when u stab the gas.

I paid $400 for mine used off the classifieds here. Mine feels pretty tight, but that's perception too. To keep up with the traffic around here, I have to turn ~ 2500-3000 rpm, but that might be a Texas thing. I've heard people don't usually drive this aggressively in other states.
