Just got a 04 chevy single cab 4.8, 5 speed and ive already put LT headers on i it and im about to install my e fans and new radiator today. Was woundering how my ls1 intake would work on the 4.8? i know it will fit and bolt in but is it gonna flow any better than my stock mainfold or would it be worse? thanks any info will help.

Yes because your truck manifold tops out in the upper 5k range. Is this ls1 one you already own or going to buy? If buying just go with the ls6 intake.

WHAT? Please don't give advice on subjects you know nothing about. The truck intake is ALMOST on par with the LS6 intake (not worth swapping) and much better than the LS1 intake.

So the shorter runners on the Ls1/Ls6 compared to the truck intake which are longer runners for down low power don't make more power past 6k? Care to show any proof? Other wise GTFO.

I already have the ls1 intake off of my ls engine that only had 40xxx miles on it. So basically the ls1 manifold is gonna be worse or is it about the same as my stock on? Cause I can't stand the stock manifold its ugly as shit.

I agree with what was posted above, I think you will see more top end even with the LS1 intake over the truck intake. You may, or may not loose a little low end power, most people swap out for the LS6 rather then the LS1....
I'd do it myself because I agree with you, truck intakes = UGLY as hell.

Yes they are ugly as all hell, only thing i would see you losing is bottom end torque. If you already have the LS1 intake for free i see nothing wrong with using it if you wanna pick up power up top.

you are going to get conflicting opinions. Do a google on (ls intakes dyno comp
arisons) and make a decision for yourself. My initial response that there wouldnt be any change , and an upgrade would be a ls6 intake . After that search and some back to back articles .. looks like the ls1 is a small loss , ls6 is a small gain. Not sure it would be noticeable on the 4.8. Im in the boat with the rest .. i dont see any reason not to run it if you have it ... I have one and am changing it out asap because the fugly ass truck intake hurts my eyes.

This was easy to find...

"With the accessory drives switched over, Duttweiler tested the original stepped-floor LS1 intake (stock on '97-'01 Corvettes and '98-'01 F-cars), the flat-floor LS6 manifold (also used on most LS1 builds from late '01 and up), and the Generation IV LS2 intake. Compared to the LQ9 truck long-runner design, the LS1 intake lost 9 hp and 11 lb-ft. The LS6 intake was a hair better, but certainly not enough to justify the complexity of the changeover unless you had a hood-clearance issue. As for the LS2 configuration-fahgetaboutit! Despite a larger 90mm throttle body, when compared to the best headers/cats/truck intake configuration the LS2 manifold was down nearly 8 hp and 7 lb-ft at the peak and 6.7 hp and 9 lb-ft on average."

If you don't like the look of the intake then keep the engine cover on. You will lose power switching to a LS1 intake, not to mention you may have clearance issues with the accessories.

This is on a 6.0 not a 4.8.

I think the thing to keep in mind all the truck vs LS1 manifold tests were on 5.7 or 6.0 motors. Either manifold will flow fine on a little 4.8.

The truck guys quit swapping to the car intake years ago not worth the trouble!! Even the minimal gain of the LS6 intake. Be much easy to just swap to a TBSS LS truck intake but still have to mod things like injector plugs and get a interface to the larger 90mm DBW TB. The Gen IV 2007 up 4.8/5.3 already come with that style intake to begin with 87mm TB.
Here's actual flow data on the intakes http://performancetrucks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397720
Basically LS1 and reg truck intake are equal. The LS6 and TBSS are similar.

It's proven that the LS1 intake is going to lose a little. It's also a fact of life that it's not just a simple swap. The throttle body is going to hit the water pump outlet unless you swap to an 07 and newer truck pump. Then there is the matter of the alternator bracket hitting the throttle body. You can trim it with a hack saw, but you still need a different idler pulley setup. In the end you will spend a lot more than you expect just to lose 6 or 8 Hp, and you'll be saying WTF was I thinking!!! I've been there, done that. If you have the hood room, keep the truck intake.
