Default Newbie - Couple of questions...

Hi,
We are new to the forum (based in the U.K.) & have a couple of (hopefully) basic questions.

We have a LS1 motor in an off road single seat racer. The engine was bought second hand, so we are unsure what vehicle, year etc it came from.

So question 1 - Where is the engine number located & will it give us the year (and any other info) that maybe usefull? For ordering parts etc.

2. What is a safe RPM limit on standard motor internals?

3. Is there an aftermarket rev limiter available to buy & Fit?
We are currently running an Edelbrock LS1 Timing Control module (made by MSD), using the 8 original coil packs & a Carburettor.

Thanks in advance

An LS1 is an LS1 as far as the basics go no matter the year it was made. If the part says it was made for an LS1 it will work on your motor. If you are curious though check the back of the driver's side cylinder bank and you should find the casting number.

I probably wouldn't go much over 6K with stock internals.

Not really sure about a rev limited for a carb LS1. This might be what you are looking for but some more research may be in order.

or just check the top of the heads for the casting #

#806 = 97-98 corvette, 98 camaro
#853 = 99-2000 vette, 99-00 camaro
#241 = 01-04 corvette, 01-02 camaro
#243 = ls6 engine from z06 corvette or caddilac cts-v ls6

assuming your engine is untouched the head numbers or block numbers will be your best bet..

Im hoping this is the only damage from a suspected over-rev moment.

I can't make out everything in the pic but if bent PRs are your only worry then you got off easy. I would suggest the trunion upgrade kit from com cams and maybe double hive springs if you haven't already with hardened rods.

Hi,
I am hoping that I have got off lightly too. The Pushrod is bent, the rocker arm appears to be in good order. I put petrol in the port to check if the valve was bent, but that stopped on the back of the valve & didnt run into the cylinder.
I cant physically check the hydraulic lifter without taking the head off, but a friend has a camera on a flexi stalk which we used to look at the lifter via the pushrod hole. It doesnt appear to have broken . Im just wondering if it has "jacked up".

I would think that you are only looking at a bent rod if the valves are in good shape. If it would have hit hard enough to break the lifter, you would probably have valve damage as well. But if you want to be positive then I would pull the head and inspect everything.
