Hey all,

Just thought I'd post up to see if anyone has had this issue in the past. Was doing some spirited driving and suddenly lost oil pressure and the check oil message came on. Shut the motor down and coast to the nearest exit. Checked the car out and saw no external evidence of anything. Decided to crank it up and listen for any noises. No noises at all. Then suddenly it shut off...:bomb: Motor locked up. Probably not the best idea to restart it anyhow. Expensive lesson learned! TSP 418 ls3 short block is on order. Why not go bigger and better? All of my existing parts will be going back together with the exception of the oil pump, cam and all new gaskets.

Heres a few pics of the damaged pump...never seen anything quite like this. Was also hoping the motor would free up once pulling this guy off! Not so lucky..

Oil pump failure is a very common problem with LS2 cars.

I've never seen one break like that though.

Yikes, so what's the best alternative to stock? an LS6 pump?

I feel your pain. Mine went out this spring. Seems to be an issue on out LS2s. Replaced mine with a Melling.

Do I need to plug any holes in the valley area to disable the dod ports? Or is that on another motor? Also what are you guys doing to plug the ls3 dipstick hole? Maybe the builder will do these things for me...

What is a good aftermarket pump? SLP? LS6 oil pump?

The melling high pressure pump seems to be the way to go.
