Default any good easy way of removing tint?

I've got some 5% tint that is just too dark especially at night. Any good easy way to take it off myself that won't consume an entire day?

if you're gonna get it retinted. I'd just let the shop do it. I just had mine retinted, and the shop pulled the old stuff off for free. They used a steamer to heat it as they pulled it back, and then used cleaners/razor blade to get the remaining residue off.

is the 5% on the sides or hatch? or both?

Wait till a hot day, soak the inside of the window (tint side) with soapy water and tape a black garage bag over it. It'll come right off

it's 5% all around, and just too dark. I just want to remove the side windows for now. I had a tint shop offer to take it off w/ retint, but don't care for the tint at all.

= on the garbage bag approach with soapy water, have you done it that way before?

I believe it was on here that I read aircraft stripper will literally break it all down it and wipe off with a towel.

Dont want to destroy the interior either, just feel there has to be a simpler way besides razor blades, feel like the blades will scratch the glass

Hell yeah, it works great. Make sure its a PLASTIC trash bag lol. All it does is cause steam in between the bag and glass.

My buddy that tints windows told me about it..

I've had to take of my 5% tint right around 20 times because of tickets here in CA. It's really easier than you think, the razor won't harm your window as long as your not cutting into your window and simply tilting the blade and sliding it along the glass. A new razor blade and a small bottle of soapy water and you can have the tint off and window clean in under 5 mins each side. The hatch is a little harder because of the defrost wires but side windows should be a piece of cake.

If you can manage to scratch the glass with a razor blade, congratulations you have managed a feat.

Professional shops use basically a steamer you can pick one up (rent one) that removes wallpaper at home depot and use it on your car, doesn't damage the car then. I agree with others on here let the shop do it and save yourself the time. But just wanted to give you another option.

good tip on the steamer.

I absolutely 100% want to have a shop do it, problem is they are 1 hour away and will only do it if I get new tint and i don't want tint anymore. It's more hassle than it's worth

When I bought my car it had really light tint on it. 35% I think. The tint pulled off very easily and for the glue I just used a hair blow dryer and mine came off easy with that too. But if the tint shop will pull it off for free just let them do it. Less hassle and more time for something else.

Ive been a glass man by trade for over a decade, I can assure you a dull razorblade WILL scratch your glass. If you use a razor I would suggest using one side of a new one and change it often.

The soap/bag technique works well on the hatch window with defrost.
