I have been playing with idea of a c6 or a 5th gen. Cant get the pricing right for the c6's so im leaning towards the fbody. I'm not a stick driver at all, would the l99 be a solid performer in comparision to the ls3 and newer stangs/charger/challengers? Any inputs would be much appreciated! Thanks!

An early LS3 corvette is 10 times the performance for your dollar, all around. It also has more useful cargo space.

Then I can only conclude you've never looked at a corvette. The hatch area is enormous in both opening, and raw volume. http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/r/9/1/ag_08vette_trunk.jpg

Outside of furniture, I moved in my old 4th gen. :D
Do you want to haul two people or four people? Cargo space is probably equal.
Performance wise, I would take the Vette. Appearance wise, I love the look of my 5th gen. Just keep in mind with the Auto, you do get AFM and DOD in the Camaro.

The L99 has AFM (active fuel management) Which under certain conditions turns the Monster V8 into a 4cyl. Running car, also having VVT. Thats the big difference between The Camaro L99 & LS3, including 400 vs 426hp.
Since I was 16 when I knew about the new Camaros I told my self it would be A black M6 v6/v8 but 5 years later I Have the L99 and I dont regret it. I can still shift gears and shit. I Just Dont Have The 26hp That I Lost cause of The L99(different cam) which is No Big Deal.
I Always get stares and compliments about my camaro ppl give me thumbs up or a wave even from challengers&mustangs -
If you do get the L99 there will be the dumbass guy saying "oh automatic" - I hate that...
...anyway
take your time picking YOUR car

Oh and a Con would be when you want to mod big you might have to do a LS3 conversion which will cost a shiny penny or two

Low 13's stock (in sig) and they respond well to bolt-ons. ;)

I have had both and was MUCH happier with the C6. The Gen 5 is a really nice car but the visibility is terrible to the point that it would make my wife motion sick to ride in it. I went through the trouble of building it to a twin turbo car and only kept it for 300miles. The vette drove excellent in all conditions, we would even take it for our long drives from TX to FLA with great mileage (even modified) and very comfortable. Go with the vette..
Never Satisfied

Different strokes, for different folks....as I've owned both too. I liked my C6 a lot but easily chose the Camaro over it when I decided one had to go. It was my second Vette and I've decided I'm just not a Vette guy.
