Default Making my own torque arm relocation bracket

afternoon everyone! Recently my auto died out, and I'm about to undergo a A4->M6 conversion, and while I'm doing it and I had all these components out I thought "why couldn't I make a relocation bracket" If you look at BMR (or UMI, or fill in the blank company's) relocation bracket, all it was is a plate of steel welded onto their tranmission crossmember
as seen here:

... when looking at the factory crossmember or when its installed in the vehicle, there is a spot a few inches to the drivers side that would have room.

Would there be any danger to welding to that crossmember?

I have made 2 relocations now and they both have worked out great.

If you have any questions let me know and I can try to assist you.

Nice! do you happen to have measurements of that? like how far off to weld, and measurements of that piece you've welded to it?

Unfortunately I do not have measurements. I actually made a template out of cardboard and used that for a full mock up, I will try to get some measurements for you tonight.

before you do that, i would take a wire wheel to every weld on the crossmember and inspect them for damage. i stripped mine of paint and mine was rusted at every weld. it was just surface rust on all but one of them which was cracked near the center. i just cut it off and re-welded it, but make sure all of the welds are strong enough to take the abuse. it is only 2 sheets of steel welded together. i would weld the entire perimeter where the 2 pieces meet before you undergo this project.

Yeah, its not nearly as professional looking as the BMR or UMI versions, but for a few bucks worth of mild steel and some welding materials... seems like a great substitute to protect your tail housing.
