Generation IV Internal Engine - Schwanke Engines vs. Texas Speed & Performance for shortblock

I'm looking to pick up a new shortblock and am debating between these 2 companies. My power goal is to hold up to ~800whp using a D-1SC or F-1A.

I have LS3 heads I'll be adding to complete the long block.

They have a really nice package with a 370? Iron block. Just my .2

Hadn't heard of them... They have a similar 390ci package to the ones above, but it costs $3,900.

What size cubes you want?

I went with AES 390 with a f1a procharger engine work
Looked great I should have it up and running next week or so.

It's $300 more through TSP for the 408. I don't really have a preference either way. Is the 370 more reliable, and how much power would the extra 38ci add? Reliability when run hard is 1st priority.

It wikl stil be just as reliable. I would say another 35 rwhp or so worth it imo.

sounds good, I'll keep it in mind. Since either Schwanke or TSP can do the ~370 or ~408, which builder would people go with?

The Schwanke price seems great, but the only thread I could find on here seemed to bring up lots of negatives, then turn into a member on member pissing contest and Schwanke never came back to comment.

TSP has made some major investments in new machining equipment, so I'm not sure if their rep and quality is better now than it had been in the past.


I'll keep that AES suggestion in mind, but seems like the price might be creeping up with them.

Tsp is awsome always have great products and iv seen short block they did looked real nice.

In the Schwanke link, they tell you nothing of any brand name of a part. It just says Crank, rods, and pistons.

The TSP link tells you upfront what you are getting because you choose it. I just don't like not knowing what internals are in my motor.

I bought my rotating assembly from TSP just because I knew what I was getting without even having to talk to a person. With Schwanke you would have to call them to find out what internals you are getting. Why not just put it on your site?

If I was just want to put my car back together with a bigger than stock motor I would consider Schwanke. If I plan on beating on it and racing it hard, it would be TSP. Well, I already stated what I did so you know what I'm doing.

Yea, there is a definite difference in website quality. Schwanke will provide a full quote w/ the exact parts if you email them, but it isn't as cut and dry on the web page. I'd want a full detailed quote from either company though before moving forward, so this wasn't really an issue for me.

We can get you in a short block good to 800HP for a little as $2699 using Forged wiseco pistons H-beam rods with ARP 2000 rod bolts and GM crank. Let us know if we can help you get your motor going.

Any plans to offer the street racer series in the larger CID combos anytime in the future? Last time I checked it was just the 347 and 383. Forgive me if you have updated your webpage.

There are a lot of different and VERY respectable builders out there. I have never bought a short block from TSP, but everything else I do buy from them - Awesome group, knowledge and friendly. On my engine (440 in sig) I ordered hyd. lifters from TSP and meant to order solid lifters, called them when it was received, the same day they send out solid lifters and I sent back my hyd lifters. I usually ask for Jon, Jason, or Matt, but they usually answer the phone anyways.
Nothing against Schwanke but I would chose TSP because I do not know anything about Schwanke.

just to throw it out there i have a TSP 408 stroker kit and just assembling it now but top notch place and there help n tech line is very helpful but you can also look into Lashway motorsports there also great guys too..

I've bought alot of short/long blocks from TSP and I will keep buying more. :D
