I have toyed with the thought of wrapping my car someday in Hugger Orange, I really want to change the color and this is a good way to do it and it not be permanent. Are you wrapping your door jams?
Wouldn't need to since its silver on silver really but I'm sure it can be done since I would be putting orange over blue.
Do you know anything about how you clean these? Does it have a rough texture like plasidip for the dirt to get in and stick?
PS great job looks great!

door jams will all be done, tried to get all seams at factory seams, so cuts blend well....some places made it, some didnt. will still look good in the end. the 1080 series is very thick material, and covers 90% of your rock chips as well, so thats an added bonus! as far as cleaning, it's extremely smooth so just your normal wash does a great job keeping it clean.

I ordered 60 ft and thats WAY too much - when i am done I will see how much is left and post it up for you guys. price will vary a lot depending on where you buy it from. my guess is if I ordered what I NEEDED, it would be $350-400 for the 1080 series (cheaper if you buy the cheap kind though).
thanks peeps, been a lot of work to get to this point.....worth it, but a lot of time...

Also how forgiving is the material if you mess up?
Can it be reused or would I have start over with a fresh piece of vinyl.

Awesome work man! Have you ever done vinyl before? This was my first attempt at it:
It took me a lot longer because I took all of the panels off the car so I could wrap around behind them. I think it was overkill, I probably wouldnt do that next time. The hardest pieces were the front bumper, and the SS Spoiler!

killer color, I dig it. congrats on the 202 mph as well. this was my 1st attempt as well. the front bumper was crazy time consuming, how bad is the back bumper? haven't gotten to it yet...

I ordered it off ebay actually....their company name is autovinylsolutions. they have free shipping and so far great service. the material is VERY forgiving. I had my 7 yr old helping me sunday, and she dropped one edge so it folded sticky side to sticky side. pulled apart and applied a lil heat and it looked perfect. the 1080 series is remarkably forgiving!
as far as reusing....I'm not sure what u mean....like apply it to your car and let it sit, and reuse it on someone elses? or do you mean if it sticks in the incorrect place can you pull it, apply a lil heat to get the wrinkles out, and reapply?
no to the 1st one, and yes on the 2nd :)

now that I think about it, the rear bumper is equally difficult. It wouldnt seem like it, but you have to stretch it A LOT to get it all the way up to the berger panel area.
Here's a tip, get 2 friends to help, they each hold one side of the vinyl. Before you touch it to the car, start heating it up and stretching it, toch it down in the middle of the bumper and heat/stretch as you lay it down, it well help it get up on the "horizontal" part of the bumper easier
if you apply it to the vertical part, and then try and stretch over the horizontal part, it wont be able to stretch that far

ok, kinda new to this forum, and dont wanna insult anyone, but could someone give me a basic why on this 'wrapping' process? i dont see the appeal, unless the car has unsaveable paint? and this is till u can get a real paint job? even the ones done well just dont look good. maybe im old school (old) and think the car looks best shiny. not bashing, seriously wonder why this is done?

Its cheaper than paint, (assuming you install yourself) and helps protect the paint you already have. Plus some people just don't want to commit to something as permanent as paint, this is a good option.

yep - for a few hundred bucks, you can have what looks like a custom paint job, and when your tired of that, it's an easy peel off back to original paint with no damage done. or you can re-wrap with a different color :)

the 1080 series is very thick material, and covers 90% of your rock chips as well, so thats an added bonus!
Do you think its thick enough to cover some fuel rail covers without sanding and still be smooth? or do you think it would need to be sanded first?

I would think the heat in the engine bay would shrink the wrap into the letters (which I'm guessing is what you're wanting to cover up), even if they looked good before they were put on the engine. That is just my thought on it though...

If I ever did it I would cover the letters, or I also thought about doing the FRC in carbon fiber, and the letters in a white carbon fiber. Just a thought though, I don't think it would look good on my car really, but figured they would look bad ass

OK It looks good and it is different but.........what exactly are you going to do with this car? If it were mine and I took it onto the highway and got a couple of rock chips it would make me nuts. If it is going to be a Show Car "Bravo" well done! If you plan on a DD I would rethink it.

Very sharp! I am thinking of wrapping my T-Tops. How tough do you think that will be? I think they measure out at 24". Is there enough stretch in the 1080 that I can get by with 24" material, or do I need to sink a bunch more cost into getting wider pieces?

Car looks great! Did you end up needing seams on the front bumper? How long till Barney gets back on the road?

Just gonna say the 1080 stuff seems pretty cool, I just received some carbon fiber and white carbon fiber samples today. Regarding my previous question about the FRCs and now dealing with this stuff myself, I'd say it would need to be sanded, just to give everyone else an idea of how it lays down

You've inspired me. I already ordered some sample colors for my TA. Did you do it yourself or have people helping you? And it looks like you are doing it dry. Is this correct? I found a link on here where a guy did a corvette and did it wet. Not sure which would be better. The wet seemed like it took longer because he had to wait for oil to escape before he sealed the edges. Mines a DD so I don't think that would work out. Car looks great, thanks for sharing.

Came out pretty damn good OP. I'm going to look at wrapping the project car I'm working on. I bought 25' of the carbon fiber scotchprint 1080 stuff, and i've been wrapping a lot of stuff. You learn more with each piece you wrap, its certainly something that takes some time to get used to.
Regarding my previous question about the FRCs and now dealing with this stuff myself, I'd say it would need to be sanded, just to give everyone else an idea of how it lays down
Yeah I'd recommend sanding them first. I had my frc's painted before, so they were already sanded smooth. But i decided to switch it up and wrap them and they came out nice and smooth. It is a thin vinyl and will show the texture of whatever you are wrapping. Did that along with my SLP lid, battery cover, PCM cover, brake fluid reservoir cover, and a couple other things in the engine bay.
just a heads up, it would probably be very difficult to used it on the letters. What i did was paint the entire stripe/letter area silver, and then taped off the tops of the stripes/letters using an exacto knife to trim all excess tape, and then I painted everything black. Once the tape was removed, the top of the letters/stripes now clearly stands out in silver against the black background. I then brought the vinyl right up the the stripes, which kinda blends with the black paint.
not the best pic, but it'll give you an idea. Waiting till I make the final touches before I take it out for real pics. With the decals, you get the SAME effect as putting flat black stripes on a black car, from certain angles (like in the pic) they really stand out, but most of the time the decals are a very subtle touch, barely even noticeable. I love it!

This stuff is not supposed to be installed wet, it is supposed to be a dry install. Its hard to explain, but it can be pulled up and repositioned as you work, and you should absolutely have a heat gun. With the way the material can be stretched/pulled to shape, that would be impossible with it wet as it would be slipping. I mean, you can do it, clearly he did, you just end up installing it completely different than it's designed to, and I wonder what effects a wet install will have on the adhesives used?

Yeah see I thought it was wired. I was under the impression that it was meant to install dry also. I'm not sure what the effect is. The oil he had said it was for doing vinyl like that so who knows. Thanks for the tip though. You're work looks great.
