First off...Go to Texas Speed .com if you want an MS4 Cam.

Second....Bigger isnt always better. IS your LS1 completely stock?

To fully utilize the potential of such a big cam, you need the supporting mods to include a stall if you have an auto tranny.

What are your goals? Street or Strip?

check out ls1howto.com for some instructions .check out TSP for a cam pkg. .thats a big race cam, requiring a big stall if a A4.and you will need gears and a good tuner.with more radical cams get some trunnion bearings for your rockers. a well thought small cam combo can beat just a big stick.

To do the MS4 the right way on stock heads, you will also need a FAST intake and some 4.10s at minimum for the rear end

Just like I said...Bigger isnt always better. Your car will be a dog off the line with numerical lower gears. The power band is moving up the RPM range with that cam and you need to get there.

A cam is in control of opening and closing the valves. The longer the valves stays open, the more air/fuel it brings in and exhaust it spits out. You need a good intake and a high flowing exhaust. If you don't have the supporting mods, thats not the best cam to get.

I don't even know where to begin....
1) The MS4 most likely wont clear stock pistons without flycutting
2) MS4 has more lift than stock heads can handle. Flow really starts choking off around .600" lift on stock heads. MS4 has something like .648" lift if i remember right.
3) If the rest of your car is stock, such as stall and gears, that cam will perform worse than stock.

I can prolly keep going but I think you get the point. Start with gears, stall, ls6 intake. THEN you will be ready for a cam.

You need long tube headers, 4.10+ gears, a good clutch, possible adj. master cylinder and new slave if you want to actually enjoy driving it hard, ls6 intake and I would get a ported throttle body and the biggest mm lid you can afford before even thinking about any kind of cam.

I went from a hot cam to the ms4 with a stock 3.42 gear and lost a tenth picked up 2 mph with only long tubes a tune and a lid. So if you don't plan on doing everything necessary to support it don't do it, go smaller

If your not will to do supporting mods just go with the 228 or a similar smaller cam.

Why the negative energy upstairs !! .... MS4 is one great cam that loves Nitrous !!

1. It's supporting mods does break the bank.
2. Its Intimidatinging when you only talk about it never mind using it.
3. If the car wont see the strip & a Daily Driver then the 228cam is more than enough.

Do what your gut says, that way you wont spend the next 2 years wondering what would have it been like if I chose a baby cam !!

Ooops' I just woke up a dead thread !! sorry

you will need to test and change the valve springs when they get weak.that cam lowers your dynamic compression ,hurting low end power.

Wow...read the.stickys...(cam guide) up top..That will explain everything. But yeah, you need all the supporting mods..Definitely a set of headers/fullexhaust. Theirs.plenty of "smaller" cams that will produce the same sound quality, and most produce under the curve power/ low end torque/ DD drivabily/ less valvetrain wear. That cam is non-the-less a straight up quartermile monster. Yeah you can drive that bigger cam everday, but you better be familiar with cam behavior and performane. You might hate it in constant city commute. Would it be funner to blast 0-75fast then slowly peak and die off....or sluggish(ly) 0-45 then take off like a rocket to 100+...figuratively speaking. Read man. And check out Martin@tickperformance...He seems to be the cam God of all other sponsers. You have ALOT to consider. Nothing wrong with a great tuned big cam though.

The only thing I would add is get coated cam bearings my friends and I have put cams in a few ls1's and every engine the cam bearings are shot. Especailly if you're going to do an ms4.

I didnt have to fly cut pistons. 4.30 gears with the m6 , pulls like a freight train. I would not daily drive this cam , its a bucking ***** in 6th gear even with 4.30 gears .I went 7.60s 1/8th mile with it . stock bottom end , ported junk 241s , ls6 intake. full drag suspension and spec 3+ . made around 430 rwhp. car is mini tubbed ... now auto same cam.

I'm running a MS4 and I have basically no bucking in 6th gear. Drives really well actually. I can cruise 1500 rpm no problem. I wouldn't recommend it for a daily driver but its nothing terrible. You definately need at least a Lid, LS6 intake, full exhaust and gears before putting it in there.
