Can I convert a ls1 to an ls3 and if so how do I do it. I am probably gonna start from scratch. So I would love some tips.

You will have to start with an LS3 block to end up with an LS3, unless you plan on spending a lot of money and have new sleeves put in the LS1 block.

You might be confusing the L99 to Ls3 conversion. If so that's because L99's which have the same block as an Ls3 but different valve train and cams for use with AFM and VVT. But no an Ls1 can never be converted to a 2-3-7-9 or LSA. Unless you resleeve it to a bore of your choice.

Are you asking how to convert a LS1 to a LS3 engine or are you asking how to swap a LS3 in place of a LS1?

The main difference between a LS1 and a LS3 is bore size and heads. The only way you can increase the LS1 bore size to the same size as the LS3 is by resleeving the LS1 block.
