I'm looking to get around 400 hp out of my car, not sure where i sit now worth mods in sig, but everyone says the rearend's don't hold in these cars. I was talking to a local shop today that runs a couple of these cars and they say that beefing up the rearend will be fine for my hp. also wanna go 4.10 gears. so now i dunno what to do, chime in please

With a M6 I'd invest in a properly built rear. You might be alright with stock gears and a aiding clutch dumps MAYBE lol

i have broken a lot of 4.10's. if you figure 500 bucks a pop whether its gears or diff it adds up really quick. if you dont plan on running the car on the track and staying on street tires you'll probably be ok for a while.

i know youre an expert but i agree. you might want to consider an auto conversion if youre stuck with building a 10 bolt.

Got a 12 bolt I'm kinda wanting to sell that has a posi and 4.11 gears... Does make some gear noise but it is solid as a rock. Used to have an M6 in this car and this rear held up just fine. I put 370hp on the ground and broke my stock rear the first time I half *** launched it with drag radials.

Another vote for 12 bolt.. I'm still on stock rear but never really launch the car and it isn't making much more power than stock. Heard plenty of stories of breaking 10 bolts, so unless your going to drive it like a grandma or not really launch it, get a new rear.

4.10s will also be weaker than stock 3.42s

you probably can find a used 12 bolt or 9" in the used parts section for $2000 or less.

out of ignorance (I'm not a 4th gen owner), how viable is sticking in a 10-bolt from something bigger or older (8.5" ring gear)? They seem to be relatively cheap (compared to 12 bolts and 9" axles) and pretty damn strong.

i think it would be a great upgrade but there is no such thing as a bolt in 8.5 10 bolt for these cars the money youd have to spend on fabrication for the torque arm and other suspension brackets will put you in the 12 bolt price range :/

Total waste of money unless your gonna stay on street tires, on the street, and not beat on it too hard. I broke my 10 bolt twice before I gathered up enough money to put a 9 inch under it. If your gonna spend the money, might as well get the 9" over the 12 bolt. It's stronger.

I agree it's a total waste of time. Met a guy at the track in Huntsville that put over $1,000 in his 7.5 and it broke on the first launch.

I HAD a built 10 bolt. Just broke it at the track on street tires. 3500 rpm dump took it out. LOL

if there is any interest, I have a cleaned/painted 8.5" 10 bolt housing, new GM posi unit (looks like Eaton), Bolt-on Moser 31 spline axles with Ford bearings (eliminates C-clips), Moser weld-on Ford bearing ends for 10-bolt, new seals, shims, crush sleeve and bearings, a new GM 3.23 ring and pinion set, and solid crush sleeve replacement. I was in the middle of setting up the axle for road racing, made all the purchases, and then lucked into the 3.73 I've got in the car.

The stuff listed above is unassembled and NIB. The items are located in Homewood, IL. Contact me by PM if interested.
