Hello fellow Ls1 tech members. I have the opportunity to purchase a l99 motor from a wreaked 2010 camaro. It has 20,000 miles and is complete. My goal is to use the shortblock and remove all the dod fuel management system and use it for the shortblock. I currenty have stage 2 243's and my stock ls6 intake. I was going to do a 383 ls stroker when this motor became availiable. There isn't a lot of info on l99 swaps. Is the l99 close to the ls3? What kind of problems can I run into trying to swap a l99 for a ls1. Any advice will be greatly apprieciated. Btw I want this to be a h/c car.

Are you only buying/getting a shortblock? Stock L99 heads will flow as well as the ported 243s.. The L99 is a VVT/AFM version of the LS3. Cam swap is basically the only diff.

It will be a complete motor I was in the process of doing a 383 stroker and my block was getting ready to be sent to machine shop to prepare for stroking as well as my heads for a freshening. The guy with the motor was a customer of my builder who walked in wanting to sell the engine. So it will be the complete engine. I want to put it in my '02 camaro.

Yes the heads are way better than an Ls6 except the L99 heads do not have the hollow Ls3 valves. But since it's off and the valves are super cheap, of jump on it since youll already have the injectors and intake.
You'll need your old knock sensors that you'll need to mount on the side of the block. You'll need to swap the cam sprocket to a 4X and get a timing cover and knock sensor extensions and MAP sensor extender. You'll also need to get the LPE 58x to 24x crank reluctor converter. To name a few things lol

Ima do a cost comparision for this build and hopefully the guy wants to sell. Will the l99 bolt up to my 4l60 ok? I appreciate all the advice.

You are way better off keeping it all ls3 style and you can get way more cubes than 383 out of the l99/ls3

Here's some info if you haven't gotten it already.

Knock/Cam sensors extensions.

Cam sprockets always use both crank n cam sprockets new! Remember you need to have a 4x sprocket and your crank reluctor must be 58tooth only. Or switch the reluctors if you take the motor apart to a 24 tooth and then a 1X cam sprocket or your motor will NOT run.

Loose that Ls3/99 chain tensioner and replace it with an Ls2 dampner
They break way too often and you don't want that.

This is the converter you'll need if you use the 4x cam gear and 58tooth reluctor.

Thankyou for all your info! Update well it turns out it is an ls3 motor with the 6 speed trans and all the computer hardware. The owner wants to sell everything together. He's gonna bring all the drivetrain to my mechanic and he will check it all out before I purchase everything. I want to use as much of the ls3 as I can. I have to get a throttle body with a cable. Will I need anything special to hook the ls3 with my 4l60? I want to do a cam and have the valve springs upgraded. And also change the timing chain. I guess I will have a 6 speed 2010 camaro trans for sale very reasonable.

Awesome, not sure about that but I'm pretty sure the 4l60 bell housing will fit, you wont need the PCM and harness either so you'll be able to get a good portion back by selling the tranny along with the electronics!
Sdpc also has the brackets to add the throttle cable to the Ls3 intake manifold.
Shop around for the 90mm cable TB, nick Williams is good but I had a U.M.I. Tb and loved it! A C5r timing chain is good along with an Ls2 dampner so get rid of the tensioner because they break all the damn time. Match the springs to the cam you choose and have them installed correctly. What are your goals or expecting to do? For you to pick the right cam.
Google them for the best prices and congrats

Thanks again! Update. The motor is actually a l99 after all. The guy I am buying it from is an older man and thought he had an ls3, Well technically a l99 is an ls3. I should have it soon. I had to purchases the a6 trans with it, and it comes with all the accesaries. My goals is the get an eps cam and have the l99 heads freshened. I'm hoping for 450 to the wheels and some low 11 sec time slips. I will be selling the 2010 camaro a6 trans and my ls1 stuff, ls6 intake, injectors, ported throttle body stage 2 ls6 heads as well as the extra stuff from the l99.

450 will be a breeze with ls3 and a cam, you can easily bank on 475+ depending on how big u wanna go
