Nice cars. I wanna know about the g8. Was it already hauling ass and just happened to come by the race or was it 6xx hp?

Nice runs! THought you were gonna do the CTSv versus a 408 car but the GTO somehow seemed to handle it.... speaking of which, am I the only one surprised the GTO hung with that CTSv so well???

Stock auto V2s put down something like 460-470rwhp. Its a heavier car then the GTO... and GTO put down something like ~450rwhp, so made sense.

That is a bit extreme. I just toss stuff together, there are WAYYYY better videos out there, and plenty on this site. And those don't have the same old cars over and over.

450 whp vs 470 hmmmm..... Gto weighs a bit less so that helps. Common sense

Idk why but those 408 cars seem really weak for the CI, they run like H/C cars.

Sick video as usual. Time for some weight reduction on the 408 cars, all seem to run really well for their setups tho

Those V's are about 500 lbs heavier than the GTO's. The older ones tend to be in the 445-460 range through the auto and I hear the newer ones make more, but I have no experience other than what I've read.

Likewise, I expected the GTO to walk a bit.
The hardtop 408 trapped 126 on a slick
That's on the low side of what it should be trapping, I would expect closer to 128. Time to pull some weight!

Why does everyone think EVERY stroker LS car should be a 130+ mph car? Not everyone likes gutting there cars. My friends 3750 lb 408 SS traps around 127 on slicks, and the car aint slow.
Great video as always.

People tend to look at the best numbers (dyno or track) produced by a generic setup (heads/cam, cam-only, bolt-on, 408, etc) and then expect every car that can be lumped into that category to perform the same. They don't take into account the differences in each setup, just the fact that two "heads/cam" cars should perform exactly the same.

This. Lot's of H/C/I LS1 cars seem to creep away from V2's out here, but then again it gets pretty hot out here.

The black hardtop 408 car has a 9 inch, and fill weight. needs a new tune, that's for sure. Shane looked at it, said it could use some tweaks.
The orange is a full weight vert, with a 9 inch...how much more weight can you add? And I was informed it made 525rwhp before the AFR 225s.
240 weighs 27xx lbs and the red 96 SS weighs 2960 lbs. So some people are surprised 600-1000 lbs makes a difference? Most F-bodies around here are 31xx or lower, these 2 are just pigs.

The hardtop 408 trapped 126 on a slick
Thats not too bad. Looks like the H/C cars are really strong then. He should start losing some weight off it. Possible to be a high 12xmph car on motor, and with a pill that thing will be nasty.

As for the GTO/CTSV....
My car made 450 on a dynodynamics dyno.
Car is completely full weight, and had a full tank, with a passenger.....and 245 street tires.
The CTSV has a CAI and thats it to my knowledge.
My car traps 117.xx so it is what it is. Pretty much the exact outcome I expected.
....Hope this helps

I say that because i don't pull very hard on a properly driven CTS-V from a roll. People on here seem to think that any LS engine with a cam and boltons can match up to a stock 560hp CTS-V but it's simply not the case. Then all the guys saying that ANY 408 equipped car should be trapping aroudn 130mph??? Phffft, that's a bunch of bullshit.
A average 408 like mine in a average street car (ie, near full weight fbody or GTO) at a real track during normal density altitude conditions (1000-2000' DA) is a solid mid 120's car. Lower if they don't have high flowing heads or if they have a smaller cam. I personally expect my setup to hit low low 11's at around 124mph. That would be a 10 second setup with tires. Which coincidentally is exactly what a few properly setup 408s run around here.

Oh well i guess depending on the air your right, not sure how the air is down here but a local guy trapped 123 with a TSP H/C kit. Pretty basic setup, full interior, a/c, p/s and all that. People should really stop being so close minded and lighten up these cars. there's so much weight just their for no reason at all.

Really I was explaining or stating for -itsslow98 and GTOSE- because they though I should have pulled harder.
As it sits now, it goes 11.9x at 117 with a 2.0 60'
ScreaminRedZ
08-07-2012, 05:51 PM
I've noticed that having a full weight car seems to be viewed in the light that the owner has done something wrong.
I also have the feeling that a lot of the guys who think every setup should run 110% all the time, every time, forget that not everyone runs in great DA.

Im not against Pulling unnecessary weight from mine, I just havent gotten around to doing it, and for the sacrifices I dont know how worth it would be just to lose 100-200lbs

Good dyno's! They really help get the tune right. For those that don't know they are about 3.5% low compared to dynojets for their #'s. I was just on one myself last week.
I would think your trapp should be higher for 450whp on one of those.....alot higher.
