Hey guys tomorrow I will be buying a 2001 Kia sportage 2wd,
It has 49,000 miles and is in pretty decent condition..I really don't know anything about these cars so anyone have advice ? I have and been doing google searches but I was hoping maybe someone here owned one or knew someone who had one..
They where asking 4500 but I talked them down to 3100
Only reason he agreed to the low price was because he goes back state side next week and needs to sell it ASAP .. It passes base inspection. Also (pretty strict inspection) they check for leaks, suspension , tire thread, brakes and other small stuff ..

So any one know of these cars?

Kia isn't known for their reliability, especially the older ones. I'd look for a blazer or something similar. Or a honda crv

I wouldn't hesitate to get another kia for a DD. I have a 01 Rio with 150k on it. Best DD I've ever had. We have three more Kia's in the family also, 2 spectras and another rio. Change the timing belt and do your maint and it will last. Most of the horror stories about older rios was the timing belt failure and that's because people weren't changing them at the mileage they should have. Also, Kia has free online service information, you just sign up.

Kia = crap. I work on Kia's a lot and sportage are one of the worst. I think timing belt is due at 40K on these if I'm not wrong. Don't know about the 01 but I know the newer ones are.
