So usually I have started in 2nd to do a good burnout, but I gotta admit, rowing through 1st to 4th standing still always looks awesome. However.. is this more stress on the tranny and rear then a normal 2nd or 3rd gear burnout to start in would be? lol

My obviously answer would be yes, but a few people have been saying it isn't much different then just starting in the gear instead of shifting through it when doing it a linelock burnout?

I'm not sure how much more stress there is, but I blew my Spec III clutch going from a 1st to 2nd gear burn on my previous z28. Clutch stated slipping when i shifted into 2nd, and i didnt notice while I was releasing the line-lock (which was right after i shifted into second).

Well spec 3 and ls7 are 2 different clutches. Spec 3 being garbage from what everyone tells me but never thought of that one lol. So you were standing still with line lock and when you went into 2nd it blew?

Pretty much. After I let off I drove about an 1/8 of a mile, and thats about as far as I got. When i had the new clutch installed the guy told me that the shims where never installed with the last clutch. I wish I would have taken picture of the clutch, it was destroyed.

I've never done it, but to me common sense would tell me shifting through gears at WOT, ESPECIALLY while at a stand still will put more stress on everything than starting in the gear and spinning the tires.

Think about it, the 1st shift from 1-2. You are spinning the tires and the drivetrain is loaded. Then you are not only unloading it but actually putting a negative load since you are not moving and the tires are trying to return to a stopped position. Then you are immediately slamming another load in the opposite direction once you shift and press the gas. You then repeat this again...I would imagine the first thing to break is the rear end, then the clutch.

Don't do it, 1st to 2nd while sitting still will put ALOT of stress on the drivetrain. It might look cool but just start in third.

Even automatic guys start in second and shift to third.

Your LS7 clutch and 10-bolt are going to take a dump on you if go doing this. Neither are know for being friendly to M6's at the track.

I'm an auto line lock guy, but to me it just seems like a bad idea. WOT shifting through 4th while the line lock is engaged sounds dangerous to tranny and rear. But good luck. In the end if you want to you'll do it. Might even get through it without any problems. I think you already know the risks just wanted reassurance. I had a thread like this. Askin about using Hoosiers on a 4.10 geared 10 bolt with an SS4000 stall and a futral f13 cam at the track. That was last July as in 2011. Just got car back on the road last month. Never again.

Nice, I've never tried starting out in 3rd before. How high did you rev it during the burnout?

Honestly don't remember, just felt right lol. Not that high, I think I could easily do a 4th gear thanks to these 4.10s actually

I think the video did a good job showing the nice cloud of smoke you engulfed everyone in.
The sound was good on my computer!
