Drag Racing Tech - Going to strip for first time.

So this weekend I'm going to the drag strip (1/8 mile) to run my car for the first time and I have some questions about whats the best way to do things to get the best time. I'm on street tires (sumitomo htr z III 275/45/18). I know to go around the water but should I still try a small burnout or is it not necessary?
Also should I launch in D or 3? Or start in 3 and move it up to D at a certian point?
Should I launch from a certain rpm or just step on it from idle?
Any tips to avoid a ton of wheel spin?
Thanks.

On street tires just do a small burnout to clean the tires off. If you have a stock tranny then just leave it in D, built tranny use 3. I would recommend trying different launch rpms but you may have to just roll into the throttle depending on trqck prep.
Btw I read the title of your thread way wrong at first lol

Yeah, I read that title wrong too.
Like said above, just to a quick burn to clean the tires off. Then play around with the launch till you figure out what works best.

youll probably want to load the suspension a bit, try 1500 rpm then increase it till the tires start to creep. shocking them from idle might prove to be problematic. as your driving around the water box, stab the throttle for a second or 2 and that will do for burnout.
this procedure has always worked for me with real street tires

With my stock 3.23 geared automatic, my best results on real street tires (stock 16" Good Years) was this:
Drive around the water and line up straight. Put the shifter in first and mat the gas to the floor just to do a quick clean off of the tires.
Would stall the car to about 900-1000 rpm an roll into the throttle (takes a little practice to see what your car will do against the tires and track prep).
I've run the shifter both in overdrive (D) and third; I have bounced the RPM high side chip on the 1-2 shift with it in D, but never in third.
Got me a best of 2.00 60 foot and 13.47 at 103.50 mph in typical Florida August weather.
