Does anyone have a reccomendation for haudralic hood struts (that hold the hood open) for an aftermarket fiberglass hood? I've heard the factory ones for a steel hood are too strong and may flex/damage a fiberglass hood over time.

My SLP UltraZ hood is great and almost 10 years old... So if you got some cheap hood... then I may try to find someone with old hood struts.

The hood seems to be good quality for aftermarket, although Im unsure of the brand. Did you just re-use factoy struts for the ultra-z hood? Also, im assuming yours it's a fiberglass SLP brand hood?

If im not mistaken, SLP used to sell shocks for fiberglass hoods that were a little weaker (due to less weight than a steel hood) than the original ones for an oem steel hood.

Has anyone actually ever run into this problem or even heard of a real world experience? (damaged fiberglass hood from factory struts?)

I use them on my Firehawk fiberglass hood and they work fine. If you take care of your car like I do, which assuming you do, than you shouldn't have any issues. I got mine from Advanced.

Yep, it's well taken care of. Sounds good, I'll probably just pick up a pair from a parts store then. Thanks

I want to say I used some different shocks on my fiberglass hood. Tomorrow I'll go out to the car and check the part number.

I ordered the lighter struts from VFN. That was about 2 years ago and I believe they were about $40. I will say the hood now raises up higher than my facory struts. I have also heard the stress cracking problem I don't have any personal experience but the logic makes sense to me. Better be safe than sorry.

I will be home in a few days and will check the part number as well. My hood does seem to open higher than usuall too. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the sells guy knew that my hood was fiberglass so he ordered the right ones, but i will check the number and cross them with the store and give you info on the ones sold to me.

I went to just one strut when i got the hood. the factory struts THREW the hood into the air as soon as it was realeased. Needed a quick fix so i popped one of them off, leaving only the drivers side strut... been working perfect for 3 years now. I did origianlly plan to get the VFN struts at the time, but I completely forgot about it, till now lol.
