Default HELP: A/F dropping to 7.4?

Trying to figure this out for my buddy. He's got a 1998 Camaro A4 with some bolt-on's, nothing major. His Innovative Motorsports wideband will read normal around 14.7 or so when cruising and around 12.5 at WOT. Now here's the problem. At start up it will read 7.4 and will flash for, at the most, about 1 minute before reading normal, also during normal driving sometimes it will just drop down to 7.4 and stay there until he cuts the car off and starts up again. When it drops down to that 7.4 during driving, the car doesnt drive any different than normal. Has anyone had this problem or know whats going on?

Are you sure that the car is running that rich? If so the fumes should be burning your eyes if you sit anywhere near it.

Could be caused by the way the WB is wired. Goto the Innovate site and look at thier t/s items. AIRC, there's issues caused with grounds, and power wires being hooked up wrong...

It is running a little rich. The fumes aren't that bad at all. My buddy is going to get it re-tuned soon though. Remember when at idle and cruising its 14.7, its at WOT when its 12.5. Is 12.5 WAY to rich to be at WOT? Optimal is 11.5 right?

12.5 is pretty good. 11.5 is rich.

Need to make sure that the wideband is operating properly.

11.5 is rich? I thought that was lean? Damn I'm all backwards here.

Is there a test that can be done to ensure that its working or maybe put a volt meter to it or something?

I would recalibrate the wideband. Friend's car showed the same thing and there's no way it was running 7.4 cuz it was pegged there no matter what he did with the car.

Depending on the setup, 11.5 is rich for NA and about right for a boosted car. 12.5+ is good for NA.

Cool thanks for the info. Yea I figured theres no way it would actually be running 7.4 since it didnt change no matter how he was driving. I'll check out the Innovative web site and see if I can figure out how to recalibrate it.

Also check for exahust leaks right around where the bung is installed. That could throw off your reading somewhat.

I remember my buddy saying he THINKS he hears a small exhaust leak so we'll check for that too.
