Hi, im buying a new Headunit and i plan on getting one of those sweet HU trans am LED mounts from (non-sponsor link removed)

Just wondering if ill need a dash kit that sits flat or flush with the face of the dash in addition to this?

Heres the headunit im getting. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/DEH-P9400BH

says it comes with a wire harness. Just wondering if its worth buying from sonixelectronix or crutchfield that includes the dash kit, harness and antenna adapter or buying from amazon thats 60 dollars less if all i have to buy is the attena adapter and the flush dash kit( if that harness that comes in the box is compatible with our cars?)

Let me know what you think? my car already as a aftermarket panasonic dvd player in it which is good but i want all the new features this new one has.
Thanks for the input

You don't need an additional mounting kit. Just use whatever comes with the Pioneer in the box and buy the Humount.

You could probably cut and reuse the wiring harness adapter off your Panasonic, but it's only a couple of bucks for a new one on eBay. I would just get a new one.

So you think the harness that comes in the box will or wont work? or do i need a harness adapter?
Im a little lost on what i need.
Thanks

The only harness you would need extra would be a Metra 70-1858 for the aftermarket headunit to connect to your factory side harness. You said you already had an aftermarket headunit, so I'm assuming you already have this harness connected to your current headunit. If you wanted to save $5 you could just reuse this one.

As far as the antenna adapter, you probably already have that as well and can reuse the one you have now.

Might be easier to physically check these things, so you don't end up buying stuff you don't need.

wow thanks a bunch! exactly what i needed, i think the headunit in it now is using this harness so install shouldnt be a problem.
That pic looks nice and clean inside there, mines cluddered with a bunch of preouts and av cables lol.
HU should be here tomorrow, so ill come back if i have any questions.
Thanks again TruBlood

what is the big grey box in the pic on the right? my panasonic harness has that too but not this new one.
Anyway. On my panasonic my antenna went up if the radio was on then went down when i changed to cd or another source. I just want to make sure that this is still what happens on the pioneer. I have a blue wire(ACC i think) going to the amps from where the headunit is, running with the not stock speaker wires lol...and the harness that came with the new HU has a label on the blue/white wire saying system remote control...and the blue wire coming from the harness adapter that says power antenna.
Im guessing the system remote control goes to the blue ACC wire that turns on the amps?
But where do i put the power antenna wire from the adapter at?

It's just a fuse, if your new one doesn't have one, it doesn't need one.

I think you will lose this feature. I have a newer model Pioneer and I don't have this feature. I used to have it with my older Alpine deck. Some manufactures have it and some don't.

Power antenna wire is Blue on the factory harness. You will have to connect this to the antenna wire on your Pioneer harness.

Thanks again! Got it all hooked up. Actually looks like i know what im doin lol. The previous owner just twisted the wires together for a connection and electrical taped it to death. Good thing I know how to solder lol Im going to try a toggle switch for the antenna. I dont use the radio too much so i dont want to hear the antenna all the time lol

Power antenna wire is Blue on the factory harness. You will have to connect this to the antenna wire on your Pioneer harness. No, the factory power antenna wire is pink.

Damn. So i need my amp wire, pioneer system remote, and the power antenna to be connected all together? No. The adapter harness has a blue wire for the power antenna control. There is no system remote control - the label on the blue/white wire is for the amplifier remote turn-on - that goes to the amp to tell it when the head unit is on.

But you don't have to worry about where each wire goes or what it does. Just connect your harness adapter to the head unit harness color for color (blue to blue, red to red, etc.) then plug it into the car and everything will work. The only ones that need to be handled separately are the blue/white remote turn on (because the factory system doesn't use it) and the dark blue wire in the factory wiring that controls steering wheel controls (because the adapter harness doesn't have that wire).
