Default New 383 Dyno Numbers!

So after my measley 423/395 I saw there were a few areas that needed work, PLUS I was pulling knock the whole time...SO, I got on the dyno today and spent 3 hours experimenting...I learned a lot!

I have determined that the knock I have been seeing is indeed false knock. I have determined that she LOVES timing...I determined that the "flat spot" on the dyno graph was an error in the timing tables on the tune where it shifts from main to extended spark advance...After all this was said and done, I still have false knock pulling 1 to 3 degrees and have determined it is the passenger side header hitting the k-member. EVEN WITH the 1 to 3 degrees of timing being pulled, she I STILL got her up a few ponies!

442 RWHP/406 RWTQ, and she has room to grow still!

Always nice to pick up some "free" HP with some tinkering. Sounds like you have some more room to go. How did you confirm the false knock?

It was pulling between 3 and 5 degrees of Knock Retard at WOT from 2K to 6.5K. Timing was set at 35, so we took the Spark Advance down to 25 to see if it would still pull timing....sure enough, it was still pulling it. We also tried both leaning out the AFR and adding fuel to see if that mattered and it didnt change anything. When we dropped the timing from 35 to 25 it lost 60 RWHP but was still pulling 3-5 degrees of timing. If it was actually knocking, it would have stopped when we dropped the timing.

Good. Some throw high octane fuel at the car to test to test for false knock but not for final tuning.

High octane is not that hard to find... go to a fuel distributor, or any of the race shops in Denver, or the airport and buy some Av gas.

Glad you got it figure out man.. My question is what are your plans for the false knock? And to correct it from pulling the 3-4 degrees?

Calvin, I know it is accessible here, but I didnt have a chance to put any in and this was just another way to diagnose the false knock. I could have gotten it if I had gone a few extra miles but I need to conserve some cash for the time being.

RJBAILEY84, I am going to get my header to stop banging on my K-Member. If I can get it to stop that it SHOULD get rid of the false knock...if it DOESNT, then something else is causing the false knock and I will need to track it down and fix it. That is my plan lol. Start finding and fixing anything that would cause it one by one lol.

Calvin, agreed, not bad for another one of your super duper custom spec'd baby boat cams...lmao
