what brand?
i was going though a box that i had in my garage, came with a set of heads i bought couple months ago... i noticed there where 2 sets of valve springs, retainers, one set loose in box ... stock ones, one set in a bag.. dual springs... i was pretty excited at first bc i didnt even know i had these.. until i got them all out of the bag and found the broken spring on one... first question is there a way to tell what brand these are, and second how would this spring break like that...
the retainer on the right feels heavier that the others

Not really. You can have them checked and see if there is any life left in them. Not ideal but just because they are used and unknown doesn't mean they can't be used again.
You can have them checked and buy a single spring to replace the broken one. It will be obvious if they are worn out.
Of course I agree springs are too cheap to re use, but in a pinch they can be re used. I would still have them checked before you sell them that way you don't sell someone junk.
