Thank you for all the congrats PMs. For those of you that have inquired about me fixing your current tune from another tuner and repairing your low end driving ability, and poor transmission shift issues, I’m here to fix those tuning problems. Ive heard and read about the horror stories about tuners rushing through tunes, mostly cutting and pasting tunes into your configuration with a couple WOT pulls and say your car is tuned. Well that doesn’t happen with Tampa Tuning. We actually calibrate your car. Crazy concept lol
WOT is easy to tune, but if your low end is a mess, Id be concerned about your high RPM tune.

I've already spoken with you, I have some issue's I needed squared away, however, through the next few months, I'm going to be compiling some ported 243 heads, a cam, and a stall. I figure I will wait to meet you then. I'd love to test your tuning out against the other tuner I used, but I'll just wait. Have any idea what cam/head install would be? I have a local trans shop, that would do the stall for $250, but if powertech can come fairly close to that, I will use them for that as well. Phil, I would also love to talk to you about cam choices as well.

Phil, ............ do you guys do tranny tuning? I'm switching from a 4L60E to a 4L80E in a 2002 camaro and will need it tuned so it shifts right. It will be a few weeks before this is done but I need to know where to take it for the tranny tune when it's finished.

Thank you again Phil and Ian. They were able to fix my throttle cable, identify a low rpm spark issue, and do a tune even with my exhaust causing problems. They definately went the extra mile for me! Feels much smoother, more powerful and I can now enjoy the full benefits of bolt-ons. I'll let ya' know when the y pipe rattle gets fixed and 4.11's get installed.
Thanks, Tripp

Tampa Tuning works harder so you dont have to and enjoy improving your performance.
Tripp, we're happy to have your business, and glad to upgrade your tune as your performance level grows.

I’m getting A LOT of inquiries about fixing other tuners tunes. Most of the time when i do this, I see fuel dumped on timing to drown problems, then I see fuel trims so out of whack, the vehicle is getting garbage for MPG. Rarely do I see injectors scaled correctly and that amazes me because at the injectors is where the tune should start.
These are all major factors into how your vehicles will performance. Sometimes I can fix a tuning issue, and other times because the strategies are just so far off, I just have to scrap the old tune and calibrate a new system rather than try to patch someone’s copy and paste jobs.
So when the question comes up why does it take 2-4 hours to tune the vehicles, well its because I like to do it right the first time.

Man your tune was so hacked up, I thought my scanner was wrong. I think you peeked at 10.5 on an NA motor lol. I dont know how local tuners can street cars like that and take money for it.
Im glad to have made the car run better and thanks for the kudos. After you get done with the tour, lets get that sucker on the dyno.

I remember looking at Ryan's car one time in a parking lot real quick on one of my trips trying to help him out. Had to be maybe a year or more ago possibly. It was a mess and I was going to pretty much go back to stock and start from scratch to do it right. I made a couple small changes to help, but.....

Staying busy for sure and will actually be in FL next week from Tuesday till Friday. I think I have about 14 or 15 cars to do while I am there.
I can work around the hole in the TB blade for the most part, but it is the MAF and VE tables that tend to get so screwed up or never messed with at all that drive me crazy.

Phil,
Thanks a million for helping me out on such short notice!
I shipped my H/C/I C5 from Salt Lake City, Utah to Tampa last week, and because of the elevation change the car didn't want to idle. Not knowing any tuners in the area I did a search for tuners that were recommended around here and that brought me to Phil.
Phil not only sorted out my idle issues, he cleaned up my existing tune and the car runs better than ever AND, he was great to deal with. I've dealt with a lot of tuners in my day, and Phil ranks among the best.
Highly recommended.

Phil,
Thank you so much for transforming my '08 Z51 Vette this past Saturday into the high performance car it currently is.
I'm very pleased with the results of the tune; it definitely was money well spent. The car now is crazy fast and I'm still surprised at how well it shifts; I love how it sounds with the headers, x pipe, 3in. exhaust, CAI:cheers: and the tune.
You are a true knowledgeable professional, you took the time to do it right the first time; you kept my wife and I informed of the results or each change you made thruout the tuning process.
I'm definitely recommending you to all my friends in the Tampa Bay Vettes club.
I'm a happy customer.

Phil, I just switched from a ported LS2 intake to a FAST 102, with no other changes. Previous street tune from another close tuner. Car seems like it picked up power, do you think a re-tune is pretty important? Or can it wait a couple months, until I come to you for a cam/stall tune?

Im not going to lie to you. save the money and wait. Someone else might tell you you have to come in, but you should be ok if he left it a little on the rich side. If the car was surging or something out of calibration and you couldnt drive it and wait, Id say ok, but if you dont have issues, you should be fine until the heads and cam.

I need a home use scanner for my 2005 5.3 that I've installed into my '66 Chevy II Wagon, and I was looking at this PC based system here: http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-sx.html

Another thanks to Phil and Co. We retuned my 408 back to full speed! A challenge was the idle. My setup has not liked my 102/102 at idle but finally its much better, Phil spent the time to tune the cam surge out and idle! I really disliked the drivability and because of that I didn't drive the car much.
I also have a 99 TA auto bolt ons with LTs and dumps. I got a new trans rebuild and decided on Phil, he took the time for all the little details and trans shift points. Though I didn't feel the need to put it on the dyno, car really runs great! My Dad drives the car and just smiles everytime he talks about the car. With that dedication is when I had decided Phil was going to tune my 408LS3.
My 01 WS6 vert is next! Though, its the cruiser and soon to have more bolt ons with some LTs, once done, Phil will tune it too....

Looks like it will scan settings but it doesnt tell you how many, but you wont be able to change the calibration.
For $50.00 Dont expect much, and it of works, Its a homerun.
You can pick up a used HP Tuner set up with not credits for $250. You'll have a great scanner, and if you wanted to change calibrations, it would cost $100 more. The scanner always scan.

Phil,
I am wondering if I should just go SD tune since I plan on running over 10#’s and since going that high am wondering what MAP bar to get like a (2.5 or 3) as well as anything else I am missing to help tune it.
Tampa Tuning
11-26-2012, 06:40 AM
You can always reach me at Tuning@TampaTuning.com
The 2.5 MAP should be enough being its 2X atmospheric pressure. The motor might not be able to hold the power, but the MAP will lol. The LS9 MAP has been working well on the newer vehicles. It just has to be scaled properly. With HP Tuners, for $100, you can do SD with an additional operating system, but alot depends on the PCM of the vehicle.
It was good to finally meet Shaun Saturday at all American. I spend almost 8 hours trying to fix another "Shop/Tuner's" build and correcting the calibration mess, and finially told shaun the car has to many issues that I cant over come through the calibration. No shawns shop didnt build it. It took two hours just to get the car to idle and drive without dying.
When I got done, the car ran better, started better, was able to run with the AC on, break the tires in 3rd gear, but if the build is not corrected, the tune cant over come it. Yes an improvement was nice and we made it as good as we could, but I like cars perfect.
That's just the way it is sometimes. With a good known shop where guys always do builds all the time, the calibration goes pretty smooth.
Here's a little side note to you guys buying aftermarket "drilled out" injectors to save a buck, and they are now "xx pound injectors" the problem your calibrator will have is to defining the true value of the new actualy rate data. When the drilled out injectors are made to flow at a higher rate, that information is fair easy to scale if the proper information is provided, but the low end calibration is the information really needed for your calibrator to use for the short pulse rate, the very important offset Vs Battery voltage rate Vs the vacuum of the car which is a huge scaling table, the minimal and default injector pulse and for you guys that smell excess fuel, the injector boundarys. They wont have that true information because they are drilled out and have to guess at the data by saying well XXX brand at XX pounds flow like this so my new drilled xx pound injectors should flow the same. You cant be more wrong!
I really recommend spending the extra couple bucks to purchase real injectors with proper known advertised data where the values are available for your calibrator to use to scale them correctly. Two of the main units to make the car run smooth are the MAF and the injectors.
I can get around the MAF through SD, but Im a MAF fan and think it should be used untill it is totally pegged. Then you should be pay the extra couple bucks for enhanced operating system.

Ill be up at the tuning school this week helping if anyone is going. I love getting invited and learning new stratigies.
I like HP Tuners. My partner uses EFI just on his C6. both very good units. I like the HP Tuners PIDs and scanner, and EFI has several differant torque management tables in the transmission which on very high HP vehicles he likes better.

Thank you very much. I dont have to crush guys on prices. Im the lowest priced calibrator in the area and that's purposeful marketing. You dont get anything more from the guys that charge $200.00 more than you get from me. Just a lighter wallet. Ive been tuning for almost 10 years, which was all word of mouth.
Everyday Tampa Tuning pricing:
Custom Street Tune for Bolt-On and under vehicles. $290.00
Custom Dyno Tune for Bolt-On only $390.00
Custom Dyno Tune for internally modified with Cam and or Heads $450
Custom Dyno Tune for Forced Induction starting at $550.00 depending on if an upgraded operating system is need.

This question came up in a PM, so I thought Id address it in a thread.
For some reason, people think the 6l80 transmission came out with the Gen5Camaro. That is not correct.
I've been calibrating these since they were stuffed into the Corvettes in
2006. On board we have Ian Thompson who co-wrote the instruction guide for transmission and the advanced calibration guide for the world class " tuning school" which instructs you to how to use HP Tuner platform.
Again, Ill be up at the tuning school assisting with instructing for the March and May advanced certification courses.
Ask your calibrator if he is a certified calibrator and how he got his certification, or if he learned by trial and error, or "just has a lot of experience with these things".

I use both mustang and dynojet dynos.
The mustang has the eddy brake, the DynoJet has 48" rollers. I also have access to a dynocom converted. Each have there advantage. Not easy to move and still allow me to get deep into the VE table and MAF.
