Default Gen IV vs. Gen III 243 heads

I've already searched 13 pages and can not find this answer... I apologize if it has already been discussed (over and over again)

I have a 2009 Silverado 4 door Crew Cab Z-71 with the LC9 engine. It has 243 heads on it.

Is there a difference between these 243 heads and the Gen III 243's?

I'm getting a crazy idea to swap the 243's with the 241's on my SS. I really wouldn't miss the hp on my truck as long as everything would swap over and work properly.

BUT, if I could get an extra 30 hp or so out of my SS by just swapping the heads one weekend then I'm game!!!

I'm looking to do an EPS cam later this year on the SS anyway, so if this would work (functionally on the Silverado) why the hell not?!

Has anyone else done this, either the Gen IV 243's on an LS1 or 241's on an LC9?

The 243s are the same. The only 243s that were different were on the 01-04 z06, they received hollow stem valves but still have the same casting on the heads. If you are going to make the change why take from the truck. Just buy some take off heads or a good set of CNC for the car instead of wasting head gaskets, head bolts, coolant, oil, misc gaskets and fipg plus a re tune on the truck. You will save money to do it with take off heads..

You're right. I should have thought about the tune for the truck. I knew I'd be tuning the Camaro any way. I'm anxious to get some more power out of the SS and when I saw the 243 stamp on the truck's heads I got excited and thought "WEEKEND PROJECT!!"

I've never done a head swap, cam swap or anything like that so I'll definitely have to look into the total cost of this with the items you mentioned above. Thanks for the quick feedback.

Yea u can find em out there for 250-350$ fpr a good take off pair. Although a few folks will try to milk em for more. Alot of ppl believe they have "ls6" heads and try to sell as such eve though they came off a truck or a suv.

So 799's are the same as 243's does this mean identical (aside from valves)? Would the compression ratio increase be the same with both untouched? Do they both flow the same untouched or ported? This might happen sooner than I thought!!!

Itentical castings. 317's have the same ports but with bigger combustion chanbers for lower compression. But 243's and 799's are identical in every way except the numbers stamped on the heads and the valves they stick in them.

That's not exactly true. The 243 castings are a permanent mold process that results in a smoother finish. The 799 heads are a sand casting with a rougher finish. It's a slight difference, but still a difference.
