If you want to see the track survive, it's going to need support.

I didn't see a single 4th gen go down the track last night at one of there biggest races of the year.

the only thing that's going to make that track survive is new ownership/management. It has gone so far downhill it's almost unbearable. I hope somebody buys it. We need a decent dragstrip around here!

What part of it has gone downhill? Newer stands, decent food, we went 1.21 last night on a radial.

Why would a new owner buy a dieing business? With out support from racers It won't get bought. I'm not going to spend a half a mil, plus sign a 10k dollar a month lease cause you say your GOING to come, IF I spend MORE money.

I'm with him^^^^^^^^^^. I'll say it for the 100th time. MANY racers quit racing there because of their bullshit ways. It wasn't the facility, it was how management run the whole show. You cater to the people(racers) who will bring revenue(spectator count) to the facility. Don't ignore either group if a bitch arises.(Not talking about Carl's wife, even though she is) but, that's why a buuuunch of racers said f-off, I'll never come back. Havn't been back since '07 and most likely won't until I hear otherwise. I could go on and on but, not now.

Well, I'm fairly new and haven't been to many tracks.. However I've ran there and go there often to spectate. I think we should all consider ourselves fortunate to have a track close by.

I'm confused, I went on a test and tune night earlier this year, the place was packed? I used to like going there because I would get 6+ runs in, that night I got a pathetic 3 runs.
So what is going on? Is it really the amount of people going? I'm going to have to read that other thread.

Anyway it sucks for me, all tracks are 2 hours away from where I live, but at least I knew people in Orlando so I had somewhere to stay afterwards.

It probably also has to do with how often the track gets rained out. This weather in florida sucks. The last two times I've driven down to the strip and it's been too wet. I should have gone last week.

You know as well as I do, the track isn't the BEST out there, but its ours. It also takes the blame for alot of peoples cars short comings.

It'll be just like CFRC, people will bitch and moan when it closes, but I didn't see anyone downtown at the city council meeting to help fight for it. They were to busy complaining about it on the internet.

I've got to say it is nice to have a track close by, but at the same time it must be one of the most poorly managed tracks around. Really makes me miss Firebird international in Phoenix. Hopefully someone takes over and runs the place correctly, when I can't hook with brand new tires in 4 wheel drive on a duramax off a half boosted launch the track prep is really suffering.

Like pointed out by Dennis and others, it may not be the best track, but if you can make it hook there you can make it hook anywhere. Do not complain about the track as it will not usually change as far as the way they run things. learn how to run there.

With that said it is usually the guys that will complain that are the guys that have no idea how to makes changes to the tire pressures, suspension (shocks, arms, torque arm, travel limiters, springs), launch RPM and so on to see what the track and car wants or will take. I have had several cars with wheels up launches there on "bad" nights. Some times it takes 3 or 4 runs to get it right.

No matter how bad, it is always good to have a local track. The nice thing with Speedworld is that there are quite a few tracks that do hook great most of the time within 3 hours if you want to get serious. Bradenton, Gainesville and South Georgia Motorsports Park.

The night I had my 2.2+ 60's nobody was hooking. Nobody. I was with a large group of cars that I always run with and we all ran like shit. Also there were many cars I see out there every week I'm there and they weren't 60'ing for shit either. It's not just the inconsistency of the track prep that pisses me off (making 'test and tune' almost impossible since every week is different) but it's the way the place is run. They have eliminated wednesday night, shortened hours, and put monkeys in charge of tech/running the night. I'm sick of watching cars that do not have the proper equipment for their E/T breaking shit and shutting the track down. A lot of the failures would not occur if they actually did a proper inspection. Yes, this sucks for people with no cage trying to see what their high power shit does, but those aren't the majority. The majority of people breaking are backwoods half-assed cars that have to be trailered to the track not because they are fast, but because they won't make it a mile without falling apart. Not to mention the hours it takes them to clean up minor spills. I will GLADLY drive 2 1/2 hours to gainesville or bradenton to support a track that (seems to be) run by people who actually give a shit about the racers, and not themselves.

Hopefully somebody takes over the track and runs it like it used to be. If not, you won't see me complaining!

Sooo, you haven't been there in half a decade, won't post any info about said bullshit ways. Hmmm, ok we'll take your word for it.

How much time do you have to hear my experiences? Or friends and family's issues with the facility, meaning management. I'm all for the track staying there and remaining open for the sake of everyone's hobby/sport. I'm not speaking of track prep either. It was the greed of the money that ruined it for a lot of people. The tough shit attitude can really piss off the masses. Lastly, in '07 at the World Street Finals Carl's wife and a Sheriff's Deputy was banging on the RV door at barely daylight wanting to check everyone's ticket because they were so paranoid we were "hiding" someone inside that had not paid for a weekend pass. They were doing this to everyone camping in the pits. I thought it was kinda pathetic not to mention everyone each way was mad as hell. I, myself was spending several hundred dollars that weekend to be there and this is what we get as far as respect? I/WE said that was it. Look at other posts, there are more bad experiences than good. If you and others have good experiences there, I'm very happy for that. Let's all demand that the track stay open.

Yeah, my car is so close to being back together I'm going to be one pist of Mo Fo if it's closed and I have to drive well over 2 hours to run it! Bithlo should stay open for sure. 3 runs in 1 night was not enough for me not to mention there was a ZO6 that blew the rearend while I was in the staging lane for an hour + the mustang that blew his rearend the run before that, lol. 2 and half hours of waiting on 2 rearend cleanups back to back i packed up and left. My car was running like dog shit that night anyhow. Ready to hit the track as soon as the MWC fab 9 rearend is installed!!!! Guess it should show up first, 3+ months later it should be here any time, right...... Next week I'm told but I've heard that 3 times.... I dont want to be one of those guys though so I'm waiting for the goods, lol.

I agree with the fact that people blame the track on why they can't hook but IMO the biggest problem is the staff and the lack of inspection and how long it takes them to clean up when something does go wrong. They will let people run with fluids leaking from there car and bald tires hell I watched a kid leave the line one night and left sand all over the track and they said nothing to him so when he ran the second time he did it again and still they didn't say anything to him even though he cost so much time from clean up. I love the track and going to it as often as I can but if it does close down it won't really surprise me because they don't seem like they care about the people patronizing there establishment.

As for the guy who compared cfrc closing and Osw possible closing that's not even close to the same reason cfrc had no choice they where forced out for a few reasons as where Osw would close on there own terms not the countys.

People that say they can't hook there just need to tune for it. On TNT nights with NO prep I can do 1.60 60 foots in my street car on radials. We are talking leaf springs and slapper bars.

The Throwdown in O-town was a success and Shelby will be doing another one in October. Hopefully, she will take over for Carl since he wants to spend time at his Oregon home.

that is kinda funny like you said so many ppl knew but no one spoke up. i didnt even know it was closing until it happened do to the fact alot of others didnt know because they swept it under the table. it was almost like the council had a secret meeting. the bad part is theres not many of our cars at the track mainly because this city is plagued with these damn imports i like some of them but theyre annoying along. i live not far from cfrc like 10 mins and when they shut that track down there was so many street racing accidents involving imports. so if they take these tracks away theres going to be a negative affect most arent willing to drive hours away. althought having both tracks are a great privledge at least one should stay open somehow.

Rick has been out to the NMCA opening race the last few years but hasn't had any luck to get the win. Car ran a trio of 8-second back-to-back-to-back passes this year but was DQ'd due to a hood issue that required him removing it. He still ran the car for the crowd which I thought was a selfless decision! Glad to see he invaded the 7s on drag week!

For all those people who doubt or think differently or don't understand, a press conference and press release (media only) will be given on Friday January 18th at New Symrna Speedway at 1 pm.

Ps: As for the Dragstrip, I am not at liberty to talk about any potential dealings at this time. I am awaiting the arrival of Carl Weisinger back from his well deserved vacation. At that time, Carl, Myself and my wife Maria will continue our negotiations and hopefully the three of us will be able to come to some kind of agreement. Thank you, Ozzy "

"Just to clear the air and to set the record straight: I Ozzy and my wife Maria Moya have purchased the assets of Orlando Speedworld Circle Track and have leased the property for the next 20 years. We look forward to bringing the same type of improvements to the circle track as we have been able to accomplish at the Lakeland Dragstrip. NASCAR Sanctions New Smyrna, Orlando

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Florida is the birthplace of NASCAR and Friday afternoon, two marquee tracks in the state joined the NASCAR family.

NASCAR and track officials announced New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld will be sanctioned tracks in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series in 2013.

New Smyrna is a half-mile banked paved oval near New Smyrna Beach, Fla. – 25 minutes south of Daytona – and Orlando is a .375-mile banked paved oval east of the city.

Super Late Models will be NASCAR Division I at both facilities. Speedworld operates on Friday nights and New Smyrna on Saturday nights.

Representing NASCAR at the Friday announcement at New Smyrna Speedway were Jim France, NASCAR vice chairman and executive vice president; George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series; and Bob Duvall, NASCAR senior director, business development. They were joined by New Smyrna general manager Terry Roberts, Orlando track operator Ozzy Moya, and Robert Hart, who owns both tracks.

dude.... ozzy is about to become a very rich man. I don't think he is hurting now, but man the income potential with these 2 (hopefully 3) tracks is going to put him on a new level. I know it's a large investment, but I don't see him having any problems with turning a profit on the other tracks as he has Lakeland. As the line from field of dreams says... if you build it, they will come. in this case, just managing it and promoting it properly, and they will come

If he does with Orlando, what he's done with Lakeland. AKA give a shit. Amazing things are going to happen. Even if Carl and Shelby run it this year for 1 more year I'm happy. Shelby busted her ass last year. And i think she'll happily do it again.

lakeland's car count has atleast tripled in the last year. under the old regime they might draw 8 cars for their saturday night program, and it was always the same 8 local bracket cars. I just went out saturday for their index race and had trouble finding a place to pit, and I got there early. and regular saturday nights are even about 20-30 cars now. now the only concern is if OSW reopens and get a better reputation, some of the guys that have been coming to lakeland will start going there just to run the 1/4. but still, having both tracks in good standing will atleast give the racers an option and let them choose where they want to run, as opposed to where they are able to run

So..
Who has the golden egg?
All I want to know is when I can drop the clutch without seeing blue and red lights.
Who knows when a statement will be given by track officials announcing the reopening of, specifically, the 1/4 mile drag strip?

Bumping this back up because I'm still waiting to run my car in the 1/4.

I would like to do it while there's cool air in FL.

Yeah I know I'm impatient...

I'll post this here too.

This is the latest quote from Ozzy today...

I need to come and clear the air just a little. I have purchased the Orlando Speedworld circle track and have started renovations to be able to begin races and events at the circle track sometime in March. I am in continued negotiations with Carl on purchasing the lease for the drag strip. As of now, nothing is etched in stone and any information of me having purchased the drag strip or the lease for the drag strip is just rumor and speculation at this point. Again, I am in continued negotiations with Carl and hope that he and I will be able to come to some sort of agreement soon. He has been more than gracious in working with me and we are continuing the process as quickly as we can. I'm sorry for anyone who is speaking on my behalf about purchasing the drag strip. I am trying, but am not there yet. Hopefully we will have more news soon. Sorry for any inconvienence, but this is the information as it stands today. Thanks Ozzy

Great minds think alike...When it comes time to start a family I'm getting either a 2nd gen CTS-V or G8. Then the camaro can get caged and become a racecar
