Default Update on my 2002 Corvette, 450 rwhp, PRC stage 2.5 heads, 1/4 mile times! SLOW!

Well i'm kinda disappointed with the results. I ran it yesterday at Alabama International Dragway and I was hoping I had a ticket in the 11's with ease. With 450 rwhp and street tires, I would have figured on getting high 11's, but 12.52 at 119 mph, doesn't that sound a little slow for a manual transmission c5 vette on streets?

2002 C5, M6, full bolt ons, PRC stage 2.5 heads and 228r cam, 450 rwhp.

My best times were as followed.

60' 2.096
1/8 8.29 at 94.16 mph.
1/4 12.52 at 119 mph.

My 2nd best run resulted in an 1/8 of a mile run against an over boosted WRX that had some interesting results...

My time is as posted.

60' time was 2.175
1/8 8.365 at 92.05 mph.
1/4 12.556 at 120.01 mph.

The WRX times was interesting, does 60' launch times really make this big of a difference on 1/8th and 1/4 times?

His time as posted below.

60' time was 1.809
1/8 8.226 at 87.65 mph.
1/4 12.791 at 107.36 mph.

I felt like I was playing catch up the whole damn time until the last 2/3 when I pulled by him with ease.

Somebody help me out here, I had probs with wheel hopping and getting the car to hook 1st and 2nd gear on that track, in fact my last run of the night I significantly lost traction from 2nd to 3rd and could have resulted in a wreck for the less experienced driver.

Is it the street tires that are holding me back? Is it the rubber engine and transmission mounts? Do I need to but additional bracing on my transaxle. Someone help me out...

Yes, 60's make a huge difference. You've got the speed for it, but those 60's are killing you. I cut a 12.1@113 with a 1.7 60' last month. This was on stock, full weight, M6, 98 T/A with 803 heads, a 221/221 .558 cam, and full exhaust.

Get some tires and lower those 60's.

Cody like others have stated this setup has 11s in it with ease, but you have got to get that sixty foot down. Put a sticky tire on it and shift those gears!

I agree with everybody here, that ET is too high for that MPH.
Those look more like Supra numbers!

you have the power ,you just need to apply it.you need some suspension work and some sticky tires.

I agree he def has the power. I only trap 110 and I was damn close to being in the 11's. With those traps mid mid high 11's should not be a problem with good traction

Well I am open to recommendations, but I what I do know is that drag radials simply are not going on my car unless I brace that transaxle. To many examples I have read of differentials breaking away from that T56... (Not to mention it isn't the toughest rear end from what I have been reading)

I have bilstein sport shocks, any recommendations? Will poly mounts help with wheel hop?

look at better springs and poly mounts.consider some adjustable shocks .remove the front sway bar at the strip.slicks are easier on rear ends and absorb the torque shock better.

Ran 11.2@118. So, you definately have the MPH to run 11s, but like everyone else your 60' time is killing you. On the 11.2 run my 60' was 1.50. So, you can see what a .5 sec reduction in your 60' time is worth a hell of a lot. In comparison, that same car on street tires went 11.99 with a 1.88 60' time on street tires.

Even with those 60fts you should be running very low 12s. The car must be spinning pretty bad. My car went 12.30 @ 119.5 on street tires spinning with less HP and your car is probably at least 200lbs lighter. I cut 2.0 and 2.1 60fts spinning its *** off but hooked pretty good after I got it off the line with a automatic. The shifts are slow or your spinning.

My one time at the track I ran 12.0-12.1@119 with a 2.1-2.2 60ft on Nitto DRs, almost the same combo as you PRC 2.5's 243's 11-1cr, EPS 226-226 cam , 420rwhp-400rwtq. It's hard to get outta the whole cleanly, but it makes a huge difference when you do. Get sticky tires and roll into it and your diff should be fine. Spinning street tires and wheel hop will break it much faster.

Suspension is more the key....
Sticky tire will help, but its still gonna suck without proper suspension.

And your 60' is evidence of a lack of proper suspension setup...or possibly just lack of suspension all together

Thanks for the input everyone. Removing the front sway bar and installing drag specific suspension is not an option for me. I bought the Corvette no.1 for handling and speed.

But i'll probably look into some poly mounts, for the most part, I hear good things.

And yes to many poster, my car was spinning bad. In 1st and in 2nd and the VHT I don't think helps at all...

Drag radials, or a set of Nitto NT05 road course radials (200 UTQC) would be much better then my yoko s drive's that feel more like all season tires, lol.

Also, I have a fairly aggressive custom alignment, not anything to cause considerable wear, but there is definitely more camber in the rear. And again, i'm not willing to sacrifice any handling for the sake of drag racing.

If I get drag slicks they will go on spare set of wheels.

Get some mickey thompson or hoosier. For an all track tire get the hoosier but if you wanna put tires on and leave them for the street then get mickey. Remove the front sway bar. I did that and I was able to pop the left front tire when my car was stock internal/stall. 11.9s with 1.6s 60's
