Street Racing & Kill Stories - 2011 Camaro vs Blown 5.0
DietCoke
08-18-2012, 10:49 PM
Met a new guy at the car spot tonight and we arranged a race.
2011 Camaro
429, 4L80 + stall, 602rwhp, Welds + mickeys, 3610 lbs
5.0 Mustang
TVS 2300+ small pulley 13 PSI, bolt-ons, Welds+mickeys 697rwhp, 3650 lbs
5.0 had a 200lb passenger, camaro did not.
We were door to door mostly. He'd pull a fender and then lose it when he had to shift, since I have auto magic. From a 40-140 roll... was an awesome race. Both cars are solid low 10 second cars, with the mustang having the clear roll race advantage. If he didn't have a passenger, no doubt he'd have pulled a car or so to 140. He ended up out about a fender at the end

***EDITEDITEDITEDITEDIT***
We had a rematch tonight. 5.0 trans was fixed, I added my 3.91 gears, and he also added a bigger throttle body to his previous 702whp setup. The results are as follows (a W for him, by a nose @ 140)

If the 5.0 drive was clutch and could shift gears, my guess is he has you by about a car length to a car and a half in that same race. But like you said, its simply my conclusion. In this particular situation, i like your car a lot more.. regardless of if its slower or faster. An all motor stalled auto going that fast is awesome. The 5.0 is just another supercharged car in my eyes.

Sure he can drive it on the streets, better then most race cars maybe, but he had a target in mind for his missile the minute he bought it: gut the hell out of it, get the baddest nitrous motor he could afford, with every part and every pound lost aimed squarely at the 1/4 mile runs in the low 10's on motor.
His shit runs like no other 5th gen I've seen, a new camaro that weighed less then most 4th gens before the cage install. Just wish he still lived near me so I could watch him destroy some more cars in person.

Awesome car man! I'm a turbo bandwagon rider but I don't know any true gearhead that doesn't love a N/A car that hauls ass. That kind of compression, I'm sure your car sounds amazing at idle, it sounds amazing in the videos. So you're shooting for 850-900hp on n2o? That's pretty big power for not having forced induction, I don't think you'll have any problems hurting feelings lol.
As for the shifting of the 5.0, yes driver needs to do some work. The vid evangto87 posted, the driver knows how to shift. Depress clutch and never let the skinny pedal get a rest hahahahaha.

It pulls ~12 inches wot maxed out (there is an adjuster/vac bypass), but it has an underdrive pulley on the crank. With an overdrive for the pump, it would pull 14-16 inches easily (usually 14in hg is max power). It's a GZ motorsports kit for a vette that I modified to fit a 5th gen. Zero problems or draw backs, other then 10 pounds of extra weight. I wouldnt expect the rotor to last more then 25000 miles (you have to rebuild it), so it's probably not super daily driver friendly. (I only put 4k a year on the car)

Yep, that's the one. Piggybacks the stock tensioner with an outer cog drive (bonus is you get a nice alum tensioner pully) which drives the pump. IDK why more people dont use them, but they're really only particularly useful if you turn stupid high rpms, OR have a larger (4.100+) stroke motor. The more stroke/rpms, the more power they can make, because there is more inherent crank pressure in that type of setup

Don't be so surprised, all good tuners know about it. My builder (ellis) told me not to use one on my car because of my putting 15-20k miles a year on it. Wish they had a clutch like the AC unit does that could be rigged to only come on at say 5k rpms or WOT. My 402 with 11.5 CR should pick up 20rwhp with a pump according to him.

HHmm I wonder how this would work on a bolt-on ls6:devil::devil: even if I only got 1/2 that it could put me at about 450 dynojet power.

I've been told that they work the best if the pistons are gas ported.
That's one of the things that I wish I had done when I was building my engine.

More or less than $25k (what I have spent on parts and labor so far).
I'd just like to compare what I have spent overseas getting others to do mechanic work and what you have spent doing your own shit.
On the engine itself? Well under 10k. Even less still, if you count the parts I sold off the stock engine

I'm at that point where it's either a nasty stroker (4k) or just a new engine all together.
