Ok I have a 418 texas speed engine, the front engine cover has a little trap door looking thing where the cam would be that looks like you could pop it off with a flat head screwdriver.

is this a trap door for replacing the cam without pulling the crank pully and covor? or does this serve as some other kind of purpose and should I leave it alone?

I will try to get a picture of it tomorrow

ok well I googled it and looks to be just a regular ls2 front cover, I dont know what its for but I doubt its for removing the cam I think I will leave it alone and just pull the crank pully

probably a cam sensor plug or something if the cam sensor isnt in the cover.

Its an early LS2 timing chain cover. The later ones where solid. Also its not a door. Its a metal plate with some rubber backing on it. We believe GM used this style for sound suppression or has something to do with the cam sensor in the cover.
